HELP 1998 4Runner, 400,000K, BUT new engine, etc. Should I buy?

Should I buy?

1998 Toyota 4Runner SUV, 400,000 K, BUT new engine (installed with 110,000 K on it when old engine blew up at 400,000 K. New engine hardly used since install, 10 K on it tops he says), new brakes, new tires, new clutch, Receipts to back it u. Ball joints, bearings, have been done, owner believes, not sure - he bought it off his dad. All highway Ks. I can get it for $4,500 K (Canadian).

Should I buy this vehicle? What kind of problems am I going to face in the next few years? I want something reliable and a little burly. This vehicle has a lot of wear . . . but Toyota's seem to last forever too. So . . .

What do you think? It's A LOT of mileage, but new engine . . . I'm just curious about how everything else is going to hold up around it.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Seemed OK. Shifted fine, no weird noises, smooth. Transmission oil has been done recently.

take a look under of the 4runner to make sure there is not much of rust. $4,500 and new engine is pretty good deal i'd say.

Nope, not much rust at all. A little surface stuff, but the frame, wheelwheels, underneath, etc. it's clean.

Ok, Thanks.

Anybody else care to weigh in? I'm concerned about the kind of maintenance I'm going to have to do.

Well, you're probably going to have to do suspension bushings, and other stuff like that. That's quite a few miles, but nothing too unusual. Take it over some bumpy roads, and listen for vibrations, and drive it before to see if it pulls/wanders. Steering components could wear out in that time, and so could suspension parts, and drive train parts. Just check it out really good.

Steering seemed fine. No pulling.
I guess the best thing to do is to take it to a mechanic for a full inspection before I commit to buy. If he doesn't find anything dire or requiring over $1,000 on the spot, then I buy it and just expect to have to pony up some cash for repairs at regular intervals. I just wonder how regular.
