Moved to Buying/Selling Advice.
The 4th gens will come with the same 4.0L that is in the newer Tacoma's. Awesome engine, love mine. I get around 22mpg in my Tacoma now with the M/T's on it. I'd expect around the same for the 4Runner, +/- a few miles per gallon. Fink

I don't tow anything so can't help out much there but I can offer what I've found about gas mileage as I own a 96 v6 4x4 and an 04 v8 4x4. I get the exact same mileage from both 14.2 l/100km (16.5 MPG).
I'm not an overly agressive driver and that's more city with a touch of highway. So if you were happy with your old mileage of the v6 you'll be happy with the new one if you go v8 route. And although on paper the new 6 is supposed to only be 1mpg better than the 8, in real life (I have to deal alot with winter conditions) I bet it's a bigger difference with that. With a 6 you get a 2wd/4wd option but if you get a 4x4 v8 then it only comes in awd-no 2wd option (which chews up gas quick when she's slippery outside).
