Axle code for 95 4Runner - no limited slip?

A 95 4Runner I am looking at has a "G254" axle code from the door jamb. A reference guide at 4x4wire suggests this truck came with a:

8" ring gear
4.556 gear ratio (really? sounds high from my hotrod days)
4 pinions without limited slip

I'm mostly concerned about the limited slip item. So does this mean the axle is worse than even having limited slip?

Its an open differential. No pick-up or 4runner came factory with any kind of locker in North America.

Duhhhhhh, I guess what I am asking is what do you have if you do not have limited slip? I assume you can get a rear axle either with or without limited slip. Not having it must be a lesser valued option than having it? And worse for wheelin?

u have an open diff, 1 tire fryer!
u can get a limited slip from a supra, or buy a locker, its better for wheeling

If you dont have a limited slip, you have an open differential

Like I said, no truck or 4runner came factory with any kind of locker, limited slip included. You can buy a limited slip and put it in, or buy an auto locker, or selectable, or weld/ spool the diff.
