2004 Tacoma shopping tips please

Hello,

It's been a long time since I have been on here but hopefuly the same helpful, friendly people are still around.

Anyways, I want second, more daily driver oriented 4x4 so I can have a nicer, newer ride and play a little harder with my 4Runner at the same time.

I found a 2004 Taco extended cab, TRD that is local to me and checked it out the other day. It's the 3.4 with the 5 speed, rear locker, new tires, bed liner, all the goodies. For Ohio the vehicle is above average. Zero body rust and little frame rust. Interior is 95%.

I test drove it and it drives great, plenty of power, everything works and no vibrations, noises etc.

I'm just wondering what I should watch out for ar pay special attention to with 2004 Tacomas? Are there any recalls? Parts that often go bad? Frame mounts/suspension componets that break, anything like that.

The truck has about 55K miles, are there any major PMs or replacements coming up soon?

Also he is asking $17,000, I'm thinking $15,000 may be a good starting offer, any input on the price?

Any and all help would be great! Thanks!

There is the extended frame warranty (see one of the stickies at the top of the page). 15 years, but in some states, you must get the frame treatment done at the dealership for the warranty to apply. You should check with your local dealership. Should be a solid truck, although some have had troubles with the DBW system (very few). Nothing else to look for, except the usual leaks and creaks.

Price wise, that's about what I'd expect. That truck has very low low miles. Tacoma's still command top dollar, especially 95-04 models. But you should realize that $15-17k is getting very close to 05+ Tacoma price range. They do ride better than the 1st Gen's and are bigger. If this will be your DD, that might be important to you.

Well I think I found my third Toyota 4x4.

2004 Tacoma xtracab TRD, 3.4 V6, 5 speed, dark red with grey interior. 3" Toytech lift, BFG AT tires, bedliner, soft bed cover, hitch, fog lights, backup lights, etc....

The best part.... under 34K miles and clean as any truck you will find in Ohio. Still has the P/N decals and greese pencil marking on the frame and suspension.

I'm picking it up Friday.
