Great Western Trail, Where is it?

Does anybody know a good place to get a map of where this trail is/was? I heard about it a while back but am having a hard time finding much info. I assume it is pretty broken up (paved in some places) but is there a way to go from Canada to Mexico on mostly dirt road? I guess really what I'm trying to do is collect info on trails in the area of the GWT. I think it would be awesome to make a week long camping trip from her in UT either to Mexico or Canada staying on trails as much as possible. I mean, anybody can take I-15 to mexico, but how many people can say they drove from utah to mexico without touching a freeway?
