What did you use for a tap?
I still have not bought any, as I have not found any of the T taps like Alex used.

I have a PM into a tech on the forum here too so perhaps he can find out from Toyota if they are going to take care of us older '07 FJs like they are the newer ones coming off the line.

i had some laying around that came with the bumper when i bought it , im sure radio shack or most stereo stores will have them. i dont think your local napa will have them though.
try harbor freight , them seem to have some of the odd ball stuff.
i have an extra , let me know if you need it , i can mail it to you .

you can do the same with a inline splice ( which is all it really is, with a spade hook up) by making a little short lead with spade conectors off it too.

Corey, I have been talking with one of the mechanics at the dealership where I bought my FJ trying to figure out what Toyota did in the post Nov. vehicles to get the ATRAC and rear locker to work together. After two months of reasearch, he finally noticed that the ECU part number changed. The best he can tell, a flash will not do the trick. It will take a new ECU which is pretty pricey. So, I guess I will be doing the no cut hack.

One guy who did do the hack is seeing a problem now.

He did the hack in the cab, not under the hood like I had planned.

I still have not undertaken this mod, as I want to wiat and see if Toyota does anything.
Doubtful, but I want to see if there are any long term ill effects doing it this way.

You are probably wise in waiting, I guess that I will give it some time too. Maybe Toyota will come to their senses and give us some help on this issue since we were the first to take the plunge. I hope so.

I certainly cant use my locker and A-TRAC in my taco at the same time.. .a decent mod would be nice. But I am not even sure I feel the need to do the locker mod with A-TRAC...

As far as I know, no Tacomas have A-Trac.
It is exclusive to FJs only.

Tacomas have Trac, that is different, and for 2WD which the FJ also has.
But put the FJ into 4low, then you have A Trac if you sprang for the package or paid $60 for the switch and installed it, as long as you have the rear locker.

If you have A-Trac, you will see a switch called A-Trac next to the rear locker one.

4th Gen 4Runners have ATRAC but not the switch the newest FJCs have
(the FJC is based on the 4Runner V6 drivetrain). 4th Gen 4Runners do not offer the E-locker though.

Its a marketing thing. The factory service manual discusses A-TRAC for the tacoma, its described the same as the FJ. And when I just used it, it worked like in the FJ videos. The FJ is the more offroad truck, so its marketed with the traction control. The Tacoma isnt as much of an offroad market, so its marketed with VSC and DAC in the PNW, but the same package is VSC and TRAC in the SE, but they all include VSC, TRAC,
A-TRAC, Auto LSD, DAC, HSA.

There are VERY few tacomas with A-TRAC. In the PNW the only configuration you can get it in is the DC SB TRD offroad with JBL.. which I have.

So do I... I had no clue when I bought the truck it had the capibilities it has. TTORA is a much harsher forum, I prefer the athmosphere here, thou I will admit it was nice venting at that guy

Vehicle skid control works with pitch and yaw sensors to get the vehicle back in shape, right before, or right after it gets out of shape...

Uses the brakes on one side, or one wheel.. whatever the computer tells the booster.


Stupid A-Trac... Advanced Traction Control, power brakes the front axle to split the power evenly and in the event of a spin-out applies MORE brakes to the slipping wheel... I've see it in person and it looked like it halted a lot of progress, but it might have been the driver.

Works almost reverse of Traction Control. There are no brakes applied to the axle. Wheel slip sensed via wheel speed sensor, and it applies the brakes to the slipping wheel...

Whatever.. I'll never own one... Too reliant on too many systems...


BTW, ARB's or TRD's trick differential speed biased traction control systems into thinking the car is going in a straight line. This means NO DRAG from brake biasing traction control systems...


Also, IMO Tru Track or Torsen the front and USE traction control and forget that A-Crap stuff... You'll get a TON more capability out of it.

H1's use that type of system. Traction Control and gear driven limited slips. Once the other speed sensor bumps, it releases the braking force on that side. No drag on the axle at all. Once it slips TC grabs the slipping wheel and the limited slip works way more efficiently.
