Getting rid of the seatbelt chime

The seatbelt chime can be very irritating to say the least.
And if you set something down on the passenger seat such as groceries or even a laptop computer, chances are the dash light will come on that says the airbag for the passenger is now armed, and also the chimes will sound letting the passenger know to buckle up.

You can see why many get irritated over this feature.
You can choose to just do the passenger side (driver's side will still set off the chimes), or if you use the drivers side seatbelt when following the info below instead of using the passenger side seatbelt, it will turn off both chimes.

Seat belt chime
1. Turn the ignition switch on (without starting the rig)
2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO"
3. Turn the ignition switch off
4. Turn the ignition switch on
5. Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch ON) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more.
6. Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the front driver's seat belt.
7. Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on")
8. Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off".
9. Turn the ignition switch off.
10. Turn the ignition switch on while depressing the brake pedal.
11. Check that no buzzer sounds when sitting on the front passenger or drivers seat.

Rear E Locker/A Trac hack to enbale both to work together

The FJ Cruiser does not allow you to run both the E locker and A Trac at the same time, a real shame, as having both enabled is almost like having a locker up front.

When using A Trac in 4 low and then turning on the E locker, the locker cancels out the A Trac, thus loosing the extra traction up front.

From what I have read, the FJ Cruiser Trail Teams rigs do have it enabled.
For the first production model runs up to November of 2006, it is not enabled.
The new TRD Special Edition FJ Cruiser and ALL current 2007 model FJ Cruisers do have it enabled.

How they did it is a mystery at the time of this writing.
Many are petitioning Toyota to take care of the production rigs prior to November of 2006 to fix the situation so both will work at the same time.
So Toyota is very well aware that many are upset about this, and many are waiting to see what action Toyota takes to remedy this.

But if you have a rig like mine that will not allow you to run both right now, there is a member on TTORA that goes by the username Tankota that applied a hack known as the "Alex Hack" around the Toyota online community.
The Alex Hack

There is a second way too that was performed by a member on fjcruiserforums.com that goes by the username superstar555 that involves not cutting of the wire under the hood like in Alex's method, but requires much more time and crawling under the dash.
superstar555's under dash method

Myself I would find the under hood method to be a lot easier, as it only takes a few minutes verses a few hours or less, and much more electrical knowledge to do it the second way.

As of this writing, I have not done mine yet.
I am waiting to see if we get an answer from Toyota or not if they will fix this or not for us who do not have both synchronized to work at the same time.

FJ Cruiser aftermarket front bumpers

This I think so far is a complete listing of aftermarket front ones.
If I run across other makes, I will add them to this post here.

Also if anyone runs across a few more pictures of the brands listed below, please send them my way (PM me) and I will add them to the collection here.

I will work on a rear bumper thread later.

FJ Cruiser aftermarket rear bumpers

Missing ones from a few makers, as in they do not have one on the market yet like they do a front one.

I am sure ARB, Demello, and Road Armor will have rear bumpers in the near future.

FJ Cruiser aftermarket rock sliderz

If you are going to be doing any off roading, do yourself a favor and loose the factory running boards.
They will bend on you like a pretzel, and they offer no protection from rocks, logs, and other obstacles that you may encounter on the trail.

All aftermarket sliderz are bolt on, so there is no need to go with ones you need to weld on.
You could, but why?
The FJ Cruiser is already drilled and tapped with eight holes per side, and the sliderz just bolt up like the Toyota factory ones that are optional.

Most aftermarket sliderz by the way stick out a lot further than the factory ones, thus giving you much more protection.

This list is a little short, and I will add more when I find more pictures.

FJ Cruiser stock roof rack mods

So you bought the factory rack, and you want to bring along an axe, shovel, and a Hi-Lift for helping you or someone else out while off road.

The stock FJ Cruiser roof rack takes to mods like a bee takes to honey.
Nothing wrong with the factory rack at all, I rather like mine, and it is easily accepts home made modifications, or aftermarket ones.

Speaking of the aftermarket, more and more stuff each day comes out for the FJ Cruiser.

Below are some pictures of various ways to mount an axe, shovel, and a Hi-Lift to your stock rack.

The first two pictures are of a homemade setup I did to hold my axe and shovel.
They will soon be coming down though in favor of a design that holds the tools on the side instead of up inside of the rack.

Currently you have to stand on the rear drivers side tire to load/unload the tools.
The new setup will be as easy as loading/unloading my Hi-Lift on the other side with the aftermarket setup.

My homemade axe/shovel mounts

Yakima 23H Mighty Mounts Horizontal mounts, these fit the rack slats perfectly.
For more info, see my website, or the Tech Section here.

Fourtreks modular axe/shovel mounts

axe
shovel
Both can be mounted to one set of modular rings too

Below is Bandi's axe/shovel Fourtreks mounts on his FJ Cruiser.

Fourtreks Hi-Lift mounts

These use the modular ring system, same as Fourtreks axe/shovel mounts.
Below are the Hi-Lift Fourtreks mounts on my FJ Cruiser.

treknwil from TTORA made his own Hi-Lift mounts
Very nice for homemade.

Demello Offroad

These Hi-Lift mount also use a round ring configuration similar to the Fourtrek ones.
Below is sbechtold's Demello mounts on his FJ Cruiser.
Sol now has a Gobi rack, and the mounts have been sold to Smack.

FJ Cruiser Additional Horn

Shame on Toyota...
They have been doing it to us for many a year now.

They build nice rigs, but they give us one wimpy sounding horn that sounds like this guy.

All is not lost, your FJ Cruiser is already setup for the Toyota optional horn.
Optional???
Should have been factory, you think?

I touch in my mods thread on the installation of it.
Five minutes it all it took me to install it, if that.
Horn installation
It is so easy a caveman can do it

Here is what you need to complete this mod that will get you noticed if some gawker drifts into your lane checking out your new rig.
It has happened to me, and this will wake them up.

Horn part # 86510-60240
Bolt part # 90080-11545
