I came across the FJ Trail Team this weekend....

... at a local MTB race.

Really cool surprise to see some moded out FJ's since there aren't many local FJ's period around here. I almost had driven my 01 Taco to the race but then opted to drive the FJ instead at the last minute.

The Trail Team name caused some confusion since a lot of the mountain bikers thought that they built bike trails (like the IMBA Subaru Trail Team) but it was quickly cleared up. They had 3 FJ's, a 4Runner, trailers and a really well furnished tent. They were headed to Harlan, KY for a trail run next weekend.

Believe it or not, this FJ started life as a Black Cherry!!!

I introduced myself and learned that Toyota was trying to expand the FJ's off road demographic by sending the Trail Team to non-4x4 outdoor sports events. Good call Toyota!

Anyway, I showed them my FJ's factory off road light kit (the first they'd seen) and they gave me a FJ headlamp and a dvd of Ron Millan's Baja Race in his FJ.

Was uuuuuuuup Nate?
That is some cool stuff you get at the event.

Nice that Toyota is expanding where the Trail Teams go to also.

During a run we had in the summer the NW FJ Trail Team was a few miles from us up at Greenwater at a mountain bike racing event.

The FJ Trail team was at the SE4RJ at Tellico this past june with us also, we got FJ Boonie Caps, and waterresistant map cases... Pleas they were there the week before at SETO, and they gave out really cool FJ Tool Bags.

Oh you must have missed the insulated leather gloves, not much use here in FL but maybe they can work this weekend if we get stuck in tellico overnight.

I have the gloves and the map case from an FJ event July of '06, a week before I picked up my rig.

Some guy's/gal's have lots of swag from them.

I'll trade all my FJ swag for your liquor cabinet. For cooking, of course.

Hey Nate, about the lights, did fuel economy take a hit (big increase in frontal area, no?), how much did it increase overall height and what did the kit cost? Oh, and a pic, please, unless I missed it here. TIA...

HAHA! That's just about a 1/3rd of my total liquor cabinet...

Ok about the lights... first the pix:

No... so far I cant see any impact on my gas mileage. I'm sure it has to be something but it's not noticeable enough to me to worry about. I bought my kit from the web for $575 and it cost me $245 to get it installed at the Toy dealer...

Ride height is unchanged since the highest part of the rack is the middle and not the front.

I'm liking it. Actually tried to order same PPO but it wasn't in the system and may not be yet. Good price for the kit, too. I imagine the installation is pretty involved, so also a fair labor charge.

OK, PLEASE post up a night shot comparing Lo/High/Driving if available. If not, how would you describe the beam pattern, color and reach?

Ok... this is the 2nd or 3rd request for night pix....

and yes... the install is complicated. It took my local dealership's best tech 6 hrs to install it and he had all the tools.
