One thing that makes me want one a bit less....

3rd gen 4runner cargo behind rear seats = 44.6 cubic feet
with rear seats down = 79.7 cubic feet

Fj Cruiser cargo behind rear seats = 27.9 cubic feet
with rear seats down = 66.8 cubic feet

When I go camping my rig gets stuffed to the max inside and thats with putting a bunch of stuff on my roof rack as well....I can't imagine loosing any cargo space. Fj's are neat looking but I'd rather build up my 3rd gen 4Runner!

Loving the responses. We are going to test drive this http://www.arenamotorgroup.com/web/u...yland/1020199/ friday. I'm scheduling an off-road shop to take a look at it since I freely admit I don't know enough about off-road modifications to be a good judge of quality.

You guys know of anything I should specifically look for?

When you go on the test drive, YOU and your WIFE sit in the back while the salesmen drive you to the test drive area. Then come back and talk about space and comfort.

They will try and sell you on the offroad capabilities, well, because they are very good IMO. Thats how my buddy ended up in his 07, now he is looking to trade in on a 4runner.

i test drove several 4runners before i bought my fj, 02 v6 felt gutless and 08 sport v8 liked it and several other newer v6's,
the only one i prefered over the fj was a gx470 but it was out of my price range. you wont regret getting a fj.

Thanks for all of the advice guys. We got a 2010 FJ last night. 34k Miles with 7yr/100k warranty for $27,500. Found some private sellers that were cheaper, but no warranty. This deal seemed to beat anything I could find from any other dealer.

My immediate plans are a roof rack, undercoating, 3M carbon wrap for the top, and some bumpers. Then tires/lift. I'm torn between going 3" or 6"... I'm leaning more towards the 6" rough country with some new shocks. Any recommendations?

I would go with an OME 2.5" lift similar to mine.
You start raising them to high, you can run into issues.
With mine I clear 33" tires perfectly.

Depending on what you plan on carrying up on top, take a look at BajaRack's selection.



I have the MG rack for the Maggiolina tents, but they replaced it with their Utility rack, pretty much the same thing.

I just bought my second FJ Cruiser. Bought first in 2008 and just bought a 2014. The car/truck is perfect. I mean it. Beautiful road car for long trips-quite comfy and I pull a 4700 trailer to support an outdoor program I run during the summer and it performs splendidly over mountain passes,, desert, unimproved roads.

The only negative is the visibility and the new rear camera held and you should add two small 2.5 mirrors to bottom of your rear view mirrors. Easy to find at almost any auto store. Also, after driving about 5000 miles, you become less bothered by the blind spot.

Other than that, the truck is terrific!!!!

I have to agree.
I am coming up on eight years as of the 24th of this month, and other than regular maintenance and a new alternator last week, it is pretty much trouble free.
I also had the front rotors turned last week, as I was getting a little pulsation when stopping.

The front/rear brake pads are still good and did not need replacing yet.
Have not burnt out any light bulbs either, first vehicle where I have had no lights burn out within a year or so.

I am going to look at 2, 2010 fj's tomorrow, one MT and one Auto, do you guys know of any specific problems with either transmission? I drive a 5 speed MT so im a little bias but I want to know from you guys who drive the autos if you have any problems.

Have never had a problem with my auto 5 speed.
It shifts smooth, and when on cruise control it does not "hunt" for a gear.

I drove sticks all my life until I got my '91 4Runner back in '98, and I went with the auto in the FJ, as I hate manuals in heavy traffic.
Plus I am getting old, and letting the rig shift is easier on me

Poke Runner

I just bought my first FJ last week. It's a 2013 Trail Team edition and I love it. It's roomier than my 2000 4Runner, at least up front and it drives really well. The blind spots have been really easy to adjust to and it's just a fun vehicle.
