The fender/body crack bulge, FJ Cruiser

This was partly seen in another thread, but it deserves its own thread.
Tons of reading in this thread.

Looks like a solution is being done by Toyota, and it will be fixed.

Mine has not been effected, and perhaps it is due to having the lift installed with no hard wheeling before that.

Thats some pretty serious damage. What could that do to the fj later on? Like what are the long term effects of the crack?

Yep, the Toyota suits are fully aware of this from the problem being brought up on the FJ forum.

They will make this right, they have a name to protect being the number one automaker right now.

One guy has his rig scheduled to get the new panels installed.
They are on back order right now.

Update
A member on fjcruiserforums rig burned after it was at the dealer to get fixed.

http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forum...tml#post867633

That is one HUGE thread too by the way.
It is the official fender bulge thread that the dealers and Toyota have bookmarked.

Back up a few posts from the link above to see what happened to Highbeams rig.

He now has a 4 door Rubicon, he is very disapointed with Toyota.

Hey Corey,

Has there been any new word from Toyota about how they are fixing this issue?
I checked Toyota's website today but of course they don't have anything on it.
Just curious.

I have not heard as of late except for the panels that are being welded in.

Still I have no bulges on my rig.

I made it through about 150 of the 250+ pages last night (I had a LOT of free time). It seems from their poll that most of the problems are from unmodified, stock FJ's. I'm just a little worried that they'll blame aftermarket add-on's for the problem. But their ad's show aftermarket products on their trail rigs so, legally, they are kind of in the crapper for the blame game.

I had read there too I think that some think with the addition of a better suspension and an aftermarket front bumper, it lessens the chance you will see the bulges.

My bumper, winch, and lift have been since the rig was four or five months old, and the dealer is fine with it.
They sell them that way too, right off the lot with the same OME suspension, ARB bumper, and a Warn winch.
Also they put on bigger/wider tires and Pro Comp wheels.

So has Toyota fixed this issue? What years should one stay away from when looking to buy a used one?

Thanks

I still do not have this problem with my 2007.
There is a fix for those who had this happen, and a good dealer will take care of it.
