Do you have inner fender bulges / cracking?

I work at a Toyota Dealership and I was told to look into this. Has anyone seen any evidence of this? I saw a thread on fjcruiserforum.com about it. Anyone know why it is doing this on some FJ's? I figure it may have something to do with the frame flexing from offroading, but I'm really not sure.

I have a thread up in this section from several months back linked to the big FJ forum.

It seems it is still happening, even with the '08 models.
Also some that have never ever been off the road have been effected.

Mine shows zero cracking, and its been flexed off road a few times.

I have "Dimples" where I should not. In exactly the same areas and looks like the exact same way others have started the crack. No crack yet.

Delivery Date of 6/07.

I am also a member on fjcruiserforums, and have been following this.

Well Toyota Corporate is Not going to back their product or honor the warranty on my FJ Cruiser - excuse is that it's lifted & it's a user issue not a product/design problem. Good luck with your FJ's I'm outta here & hell will freeze over before I buy another Toyota product.

They are just starting using redesign #3 on FJC being produce - so almost all of them have this potential of ripping apart.

Also those with 3rd members built jan 07 & earlier have Ring gears that weren't hardened properly.

Also looks like they may have a frame design problem

No bulges on my June 2006 build with 18K+ miles.
I will be getting the rear break TSB done later, and I will ask them about the rear gears too.

Saw your posts too Sin over on the big site.

I think I'm more disappointed in Toyota's handling of the issues than the design & product defects. Guess I shouldn't have expected Toyota to be better than the big 3 - GM Ford & Jeep.

Sin, sorry for your troubles. I don't know why TMS wouldn't fix your FJ, they're fixing others with bulges. I'll check out your thread on the big FJ board, haven't been there in months.

No bulges, cracks, tears or anything wrong with mine, but it's mostly stock and only light off-road use. Maybe changing all fluids to Redline helped the 3rd member.

Corey, what RR brake TSB?

Bob, the early FJs like mine when you put them into reverse and back up into your parking stall, they squeak and make a terrible noise.
I think they replace the rotors and other stuff.
All for free of course.

I will look into it for Xmas break.

Thanks Corey. Looks like I'm outside the VIN's and Pro Date for affected FJC's, but I'll be listening.

I'd like to quiet the roof during heavy rain without putting a roof top tent on or turning up the roof FJammer speakers.

cracking fender aprons

The reason I joined is because I recently discovered severely cracking fender aprons in my engine compartment. This an ’07 with an aftermarket heavy bumper and winch. The dealer will not do anything to help because of the high mileage (116K). I found in your forum and others that many other owners have had this problem but I have not seen where any have gotten satisfaction from their dealer. I do know that Toyota manufactured replacement aprons with a new design in later years. How can I get my dealer to pay for the replacement job (approx. $3500)?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Brucelove9

PS: How do you add pictures to the post? I want to show pictures of fender apron cracks.

Host the pics on photobucket.com then use the code from their site to add them here.
