i have a 96 t100 no lift and 31x10.5x15. I am looking to put on new wheels on same tires but want to see if anyone else has done it and knows if it has any clearance issues. id like to get 15x8 with either 3.75 or 4" backspace. i have been searching this for hours and cant find an answer.

also if you have this post some pics if you can.

I would go with the 4 inch back spacing, especially if you are planning on lifting in the future. I was barely able to run my stock rim's for a little over a year with minimal rubbing issues between the inside side wall and the upper control arm, but when I got my new wrangler duratrac's, there was only about 1/8th of an inch of clearance at ride height, and any susupension droop led to contact. Now, I have a set of 16x7 black d-window rims, and a set of 1/4 inch wheel spacers, and that's got me about 3/4-1 inch of clearance.

Wouldn't the 3.75 make it wider? How come you would pick the 4 over the 3.75?

if this comment is stating that you had rub on the inside of the tire, then DECREASING your backspacing would move the tire OUTBOARD, and eliminate the inside rub.

remember, lower backspacing measure = tire moves OUT of the wheel well. *

*when comparing wheels of the same width, generally:

- if the outer edge of the tire rubs sheetmetal with wheels turned, INCREASING the backspace may help pull the tire back inside the well.

if the inside edge of the tire is rubbing inside the well, OR if the inner sidewall is rubbing the suspension, decreasing the backspacing may help move the tire outboard. then if there's still rubbing, you need more lift to clear, or stay with a smaller tire.

15x8 with 3.75" bs will move your 31's outward, and give you a wider stance.
15x9 with 3.75" bs would make you look even wider, but you have to watch for outer edge of tire rubbing on turns if you don't have sufficient lift or "clearance" (keywd: big hammer)

the previous commenter seems to illustrate that he needed 1/4" spacers because his backspacing was too large.

thank you for the help. so it sounds like i should be fine with the 15x8 and 3.75 now i just have to decide on if i want pro comp series 98, cragar soft 8 (has 4" backspace all others have 3.75), or the summit racing or jegs black 8.

i've got the soft 8s from summit in 15x8 with 3.75" and 33x10.5s on 'em. (yes i needed more lift for the 33s because the outside edge of the tire rubbed front AND back, when turning in the direction of the outer edge. (left turn = left tire rub)

at the time (2 yrs ago?) they were only $42 each. the PC 98s looked identical but were $25 more. looks like the price went up and there's no 3.75s anymore.
