What does a new exhaust system cost?

My '96 T just turned a young 140K. It's exhaust system including the CAT is pretty much reached the end of its life. If you have done a system from the engine pipe back(including the CAT) I would appreciate knowing how much it cost and what you used. I want to keep it all stainless like the orig. including the CAT. No "performance" system for me, no loud muffler, just something a little more free flowing than stock. I'm having a local shop install it. They do nice custom work too, did a great job on my old Jeep XJ(non-stainless Walker system I bought) so I can give them the parts and they will do the rest.

I appreciate your input.

I have a bosal system I got offroack auto Im happy with. I will admit the muffler has sorta a tinny sound. But it was like 400 bucks for both cat and full exhaust from cat back.

Got some prices from my local shop and decided to go with a custom system, cost will be about six & change. Suppose to be a "mild" performance system, hope it's not too loud. Got a price from local yota dealer for genuine Toyota OEM SS exhaust, $1,900+ for the CAT!!!, $240 for pipe, $330 for tailpipe+muffler, so a measily $2500 from the x-over pipe back. (add an extra $270 if I needed a x-over pipe)

says SS, sure it aint gold?

That's why you don't ever go back to the dealer unless it's under warranty

Mine's not pretty but fully functional (San Diego truck safe in Idaho)

The original exhaust is NOT SS. I don't know if it's even aluminized. I bought one in 2005 and it was $130, it's more like $250 from the internet dealer now. No way it's SS at that price, anyway if it were SS it would be lasting a lot longer.

You maybe shouldn't replace the cat unless you know it's plugged or it's got holes in it. Or if you are getting check engine light about it. When you do, get an aftermarket cat, it should cost less than $300.

Weird. I have a 97 4x4 dlx x-cab. I bought truck in 2005 with 125k and it had custom exhaust, which had a hole in it, so it was at least a few years old. I replaced with OEM, 30k miles/9+ years later it's got some rust but no holes. Didn't have dealer install it so no warranty, otherwise it would be replaced free.

I have two cars with OEM SS. One built 94 other built 97. Factory Original exhaust. Minor corrosion but no holes. 150k miles on each car.

I have a volvo with OEM aluminized steel. 194k miles. Mufflers starting to rot but no holes.

Never saw SS as a feature on the sell sheet, but I only looked at the ones for 97. But if you have an original exhaust that went 140k and almost 20 years I believe you.

Go to a local exhaust shop. For my old full size rig from the Y pipe to tail pipe was like $230.
