Honestly, You say you can do an engine swap...So I would bet you could DIY..

From what I have read, (lots of reading) If the boot goes its probably wise to replace the whole CV joint/axle..Aboot 80 bucks from napa when you turn in your core.

If an engine swap means anything to me in mechanical abilities, it'll take you 2 hours.

Someone please correct me if im misleading this guy

I'v had both my outer cv boots go. a new boot kit from the dealer is about $40. As long as you haven't been driving on it for like thousands of miles with it blown open you should be ok to just slap a new boot kit on it. I did my pass. side about two years ago and it's fine. just did my drivers side last month. drove about 500 miles with it blown open. still good. not bad to change. If you can swap en engine you re-boot a cvshaft. It's not as bad to drive on it as say a frontwheel drive car because unless it is in 4wheel, there is no real force being put on it. just turning with the wheels. however, you really should replace it as soon as possible.

Definatly replace the whole shaft, dirt and crap will really screw you up, i replaced both of mine, took me about and hour and ahalf each side, it cost me about $90 from advance auto parts. not too bad though, i suggest pick up a haynes manual. Geno
