Hi I am new to the forums, Just bought a 95 t100 manual transmission 4wd xtracab a week or so ago.Today when I was driving it, I went to shift and when I pushed in the clutch it went pop and then the clutch would not work anymore. It would not engage and I could not shift into any gear. Thankfully I was just up the hill from my destination so I just coasted down the hill into the driveway. I managed to get back home by using the "clutch start cancel" button so now it is sitting in my driveway and I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ok, I figured out from reading on the forum that it is the clutch bracket must be broken. I went out and looked and sure enough it is broken. So do I just take it out and get it welded or what?

Take a look at your bracket: the old ones are uncoated steel (grey) and the new(er) version is coated black. There are a TON of threads on this here and even more over at Toyotanation forums (guys there are great too).

The short answer is, yes, buy yourself a newer style bracket and backing plate for the firewall.

The main problem is that its not just the bracket - its also the weak firewall on T100's that seems to crack over time. Even with a newer bracket and backing plate, if your firewall is badly cracked than you will have a hell of a time getting the truck to shift nicely again. I think many T100 owners are actually plagued with a bit of this and have upgraded or dealt with it in varying ways.

Mine was similar in that even though I had the newer style bracket and such, my firewall would flex about 1/8" when depressing the pedal - that made ALL the difference. My solution was:

Best of luck to you. I have seen many a good weld jobs on the original bracket to fix that issue - unfortunately I think the problem is always two fold. You should get a bright light and inspect your firewall area after removing your bracket and clutch master very closely. Look for cracks on both sides and address it before putting everything back together.

hey thanks for the reply... I already had it put back together on Monday so maybe I will take it back apart and see if there are any cracks in the firewall. My bracket was black so does that mean it has been replaced already once? I just had a local welder weld it for me so I am back in business for now. Just used it today to haul some wood out of the woods... climbs snowy hills real good too!

Yes, that is the updated part. Still prone to breaking obviously - the flex and weak lateral stability of the bracket assembly (even the updated version) are the culprit.

Do you have the plate installed between the master cylinder and firewall>

what plate? I just had the break welded and I put back in. Today while I was driving it though every time I pressed or released the clutch it made a faint "click". So I am now wondering if the firewall is cracked or what?
