2.7 intermittent engine misfire

Engine misfire. I've tried injector cleaner, plugs ,wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. Sometimes it will run great other times like crap. I didn't want to throw parts at the problem but its what I've done. Please help with any ideas. I'm pulling my hair out. Thanks so much

Have you checked any codes?

Mine throws a code, slight miss and its cylinder #3 I replaced everything like you did and its still there but so slight.

I'm certain its an injector but you can use a stethoscope or long screwdriver and listen for clicking from it when running to ensure its flowing properly.

I mean, for me injectors would be next in line but run diagnostics if you can so you aren't just throwing parts at the truck.

Auto zone ran the codes. I didn't keep the print out but they were vague. Example: misfire on cyl 4 and EGR valve issues. I actually took EGR off and cleaned it. It seemed to be working fine. Whoops there went another hand full of hair. Lol

Misfire on #4 is pretty clear if you ask me.

I'm no expert, could need a valve adjustment or a new injector. But a misfire is going to be fuel, air or spark related. Spark is fixed, air/fuel will be a valve adjustment or a new injector.

Well thought out, fiveofeen. I will look at my Haynes manual and investigate the procedure for valve adj. Hope its not too complex. Will update asap. Thanks for your input. If you think of any other ideas please let me know.

Sorry to say but the 3rzfe is known to tighten up and burn up valves...

I would definitely put an OBDII scanner on it and see what the sensors are reporting. Could be the ECT (engine coolant temp) sensor is broken.

Have you pulled and cleaned the MAF? Don't fergit to reset the ECU by pulling the EFI fuse fer about 3 minutes.

Oh...adjusting the valves on the 3rzfe isn't easy. It's a bucket/shim setup and you'll need the proper shims on hand or order them from Toyota plus the proper tools to measure the gaps.
