Question Wiring 4runner Power Antenna Switch

Has anyone installed a 4runner power antenna switch? I have seen it posted on previous threads about power antennas but have not seen a write-up for it. I would like to install it on my Taco but I don't want to fry anything.

I read those threads but none of them give the specific wiring pinout of the 1st gen switch. I would like to be able to use the up-down feature and plug it into my dash lights.

So you want your antenna to go up and down with your lights?

No I want to be able to control the antenna like the switch was intended to. Up & down. Period. I'd like the light in the switch to go on with my lights so it matches the rest of my dash. I am looking for the pinout of the switch. I don't have it infront of me but there are six or so pins on the back of it and I don't know which one is for what. Asking on here before I sit down for an hour with a multi-meter and go nuts trying to get it all to work.

Do you have a picture of the switch you are using?

Is there any writing on the side of the switch?

Here are some pictures. Sorry they are out of focus/large (my gf's camera/computer). There are six wires. Center one looks like the ground. Two brown w/black on one side. One black w/red and one black w/yellow.

Looks like a DPDT monmentary switch. In other words, the switch probably rocks in either direction and is spring loaded to return to the neutral position.

I would advise looking at a schematic to identify wire colors on the switch itself. Sorry I don't have my service manual with me at the moment. That said, below is my best guess:

I think the circuit would have one leg for illumination, and ground for that illumination. If I were toyota I'd put those two legs in the middle. On either end you'd have the controls for the antenna, which would simply reverse polarity depending on whether you want to go up or down. Just like an electric window switch. Duh, right? A simple check with an ohm meter can tell you exactly what controls what.

I still have to wonder, why not get a radio that automatically controls the up and down of the antenna? I'm just curious as to why you want to install this switch.

Talking

I have a deck that controls the antenna now. The problem is (like every other retractable antennas) that after going up-&-down so much, the antenna isn't so good at going back down. I just got it fixed (dealership "broke" it) and I thought this would be a good time to install a switch to control it. I hardly listen to FM but then again I am in the city and don't really need the antenna anyways. Thanks for the help. Should be a starting point. I've got a virgin Dremel I need to break in this weekend
