What do you use for back-up lights?
Just bought a '92 4runner.. 22RE auto SR5. Need to add back-up lights. Have owned '82 SR5 35's header, dual fuel tanks etc, and an '89 4Runner 22RE..always added auxilliary back-up lights...usually the rubber tractor type.
How are the 55w replacement bulbs?

How you most of you have those extra light wired up? Are you just tapped into the stock reverse light harness, or are you actually running seperate wiring and just running it off the reverse switch?

I've got a pair of wal-mat 55w lights mounted on the underside of my stock bumper, right next to my tow hitch. they don't hang down any lower than my hitch, and are plenty bright. I just wired them to a single throw switch/relay so that I can turn them on whenever, not just in reverse. I'll have to get pics for ya later

I have 2 55w Hella FF75's mounted inside my 2nd gen 4Runner right below where the shabby speakers used to be. I'll be adding a set of the 55w Hella Optilux 1402's that were $10 from Cabela's, but it's not a priority. 
I like having them inside the vehicle; although I do have to roll the window down to use them effectively. Plenty of light for backing up and more than enough to keep tail-gaters away - it's overkill really, but it's nice to envision the look on a driver's face when they ride my bumper and all of the sudden see my rear window roll down LoL

I run some 30 LED narrow beam backup bulbs in my stock housing, works well.
Also there is a 3W Luxeon backup bulb, too. If planning on upping the bulb wattage or adding additional lights, put in a relay as you will likely fry the stock backup switch over time (I put the 55W bulbs on my old VW and the switch lasted under a year). The LEDs are nice as they don't rely on the poor-excuse-for-a-reflector in the stock housing.

Just removed the 1156 incandescent bulb and installed an 1156 LED bulb:

I can't recall if that was the bulb that needed a little clearancing in the stock reflector area, to remove a raised piece of plastic that was in the way.

where did you guys get those lights? i like their size.
I'm thinking of running some reverse lights, but having them double as dust lights too.

4crawler which is brighter the 30 LED's or the 3W Luxeon. In the info section it doesn't make a clear comparison (at least not clear to me). They say the 3W Luxeon is 65 lumens. Doesn't say for the LED's.

Never tried the Luxeon lamp for that application, but I do have a 1W Luxeon dome light and it is very bright. My guess is at the center of the 30 LED narrow beam, you get more light there. The Luxeon bulb throws light out over a 130 degree angle, so would illuminate a wider area, just not as bright as the 30 LED in the center.

I spray painted the black dividers for the rear lights with some chrome spray paint and that helped a lot.
then I added some 14$ a pair small driving lights to my roof rack they are 55 watt lights, from Wally world..
