trailer wiring

I am looking to pull a trailer and have no wiring in the truck. Do I need to have a converter to convert from separate turn/brake lights or no?

Yep, you need a converter box. I use a U-Haul converter in my '85 (5 -> 4 wire). Previous owner installed it and it seems to work fine. Or you can get a fancier converter box with relays to isolate the tow rig from the trailer.
