SR5 Gauge Swap
Hey, I got a dash & instrument cluster from an SR5 truck. Mine is non-SR5. I don't see any wires with the cluster..thought I told the guy to include them, but oh well. Do I need wires from it to connect everthing up, or is it all in my truck already, just needing to be connected to the gauge? Also if anyone's done it and has any advice, I'd appreciate it. I got a write-up of the numbers & wire colors for the swap, but that's it. Thanks!
I'll go ahead and post what I have in case it's helpful to anyone. SR5 non-SR5 wire color function 1 1 GY Right turn signal indicator 2 3 3 BR (B BR) Speed sensor (-) ground 4 6 GL Speed sensor (+) 5 6 7 23 YG Water temp gauge 8 9 RW Panel lights (+) 9 15 YR Fuel Gauge 10 12 Y Ignition switched power 11 21 YB Oil Pressure switch (idiot light) 12 22 YW Charge (idiot light) 13 14 WB Ground 14 Tach input - must be wired to igniter yellow 15 17 GB Left turn signal indicator 16 16 RB Panel lights (-) 17 18 19 11 G 4WD 20 21 19 BY Seat belt 22 23 13 RG High Beam 24 20 GW Brake For some reason it's not spacing out the way I'd like, but the first row is SR5 numbers, the second is non-SR5, third is wire color, fourth is function, in case it doesn't make sense. everything is plug and play except for the oil pressure sender. and depending on how your truck is wired, you may have to run a tach wire

Ok, thanks. So if he didn't give me any wires with the cluster, I'm ok with the wires in my truck already? I don't need to find a wireing harness (aside from the tach depending on my truck)?

Now......Um.........so, if someone were to want to change the odometer.....how would such a person do that? Of course it's illegal and of course no one would do this, but say you swapped instrument clusters, I mean if you're actually trying to return the odometer to what the truck has on it....would that really be wrong?
I can't say that I want my odometer to read what the donor truck had on it, and even though having it start at zero sounds kinda cool (especially since my engine and transmission will be rebuilt), I'd prefer it said my actual mileage. Anybody heard of how this might be done, just hypothetically, of course. |

find someone who knows how to take apart the assembly, then have them set the mileage to what your truck has on it. i have yet to do this, in fact im kind of thinking of putting my dlx cluster (big speedo) back in...

What's the deal? Everyone I've talked to says that the 79-83 instrument panels are all interchangeable............Have a look.
![]() ![]() Is there any way to make this work, or am I back in the market for an instrument cluster? The top cluster is the one out of my truck, an '83. The lower is out of an '82 and I'd sure like to get it in my truck.. |
