intermittent power loss 3.0 v6

hey yall, i got a 94 yota pu with the 3l v6 and a 5 speed tranny. every once in a while i will be driving down the road and the check engine light will come on and it will feel like i lost a cylinder and i can take the key to off and then right back to on and let it jump itself off and it all resets and the light goes out and the engine runs right. any ideas? it has me pretty nervous. i have no clue what is goin on with it. thanks for any advice.

so whats the code? Im willing to bet its either 52(knock sensor) or 71(egr valve)...how many miles? do you know how to check codes? heres the fsm link http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...85diagnosi.pdf
it explains it quite clearly. find your code and repost.

hey man, i am active duty military and im deployed right now. i wont be home for another 2 months. i aint gonna be able to check it till i get home. but i will keep that in mind. do you reckon it could have anything to do with the o2 sensor? i think it is the original one. anywho, also, if its the knock sensor, does that mean that i have a knock, or just a bad sensor? where are these sensors located? are they hard to change, or are they up top where it can be done without pullin anything apart? thanks alot man.

haha, nothing can be done on the 3.0 without pulling everything else apart.

mine was doing this, and it was the knock sensor. can't remember the price, but Toyota conveniently positioned it in the valley between the cylinders. under the intake. under everything else. i'm gonna straight up tell ya...its not easy to get to. another flaw of this motor. that sensor sits where water acuumulates, therefore it rusts and goes bad. not hard to change, but time consuming. good luck!
