installing a second battery questions
I'm installing a second battery. This will be for my ham radio and other things when i'm camping. I will be using a Stinger SGP38 80-AMP Battery Isolator and Relay.
I have two questions.
One: when the installing a second battery using a battery isolator It says connect to a "true ignition source"(That does not lose power during start) I take it that it mean only has power when the engine is running. Like the radios acc connection . Im thinking it it had power all the time It would keep the battery's always connected.
Two: do I need the have the same amp hour as the main battery? I want to use a deep cycle Battery, Group Size 29DC much bigger than my trucks main battery.

Just what are you connecting to a true ignition source ??
Lose Power?? system voltage will always drop when a large load like cranking is applied
Does it need to be switched power ??
Both Batteries 12volt ??
In most cases you should be fine
Not all Battery Isolators are the same I hope you have one that will work for what you want .
there also seems to be quite many China built ones of their normal quality
Just where do you plan to put the second battery ??

The positive lead from the battery relay . Im sure it's just the way they say it. but it means powered when the engine is running.

That would be one way of doing it but I want it to be automatic.

Yes, But I want the biggest battery I can get for the ham radio stuff.
