HID's in Hella 500's Write up with LOTS of pictures

So I posted a thread a while back about my HID's in my hellas and a couple of people were wanting a write up so I just did my second set and took a couple of pics of how I did it.

THINGS YOU NEED
1) I went out and purchased a drill and some drill bits/ paddle bits as I've been using my dads and now that I'm in college I decided it was time I had my own.

2) A 7/8 inch paddle bit.

3) Some Hella 500's. Larger versions of Hellas should work since they are bigger and have more room for the HID bulb but I have no way of verifying this.

4) An HID kit. I got mine from DDM Tuning and it's the 55 watt H3 8000k slim ballast version.

5) Brisk

PROCEDURE

1) Take your lights and start by removing the lens from the plastic housing.

2) Take the plastic housing and right after the letter "E" on the word Hella on the back of the housing put the point of your 7/8 inch paddle bit and start to slowly drill until you have a clean hole. Repeat for second light and set aside for time being.

3) Drink Brisk

4) Remove the original H3 55 watt bulb and keep as spare if still good.

5) Take the new HID bulb and place it into the lens. Take care not to break the Arc tube on the bulb and DO NOT TOUCH THE BULB! Flip the metal holder spring in place to secure the bulb.

6) Run the wires through the plastic housing and secure grommitt in place.

7) Drink some more Brisk, your almost done.

8) Slowly pull the wires to take up the slack and then screw the lens back to the plastic housing.

9) And there you have it your finished product.

10) Finish Brisk.

Remember that these will blind the S*#% out of oncoming traffic but do wonders on back country roads. There great for spotting deer as there Eyes glow when HID lights hit them. Also do not turn the lights on and off very fast as that will shorten the life of the bulb. Once I have all 4 HID Hellas on the front I'll take a picture but all I have for now are the two I put on a while back which is what you see in the pictures. I've ran with them for about a year with no issues. Hope this helps. This was my first write-up Other than that enjoy and good luck!

Yeah the rally eyes are kinda pricy. I probably got somewhere close to what the 4000's could offer but then again I wouldn't know because I've never had a pair. I was considering mounting these on the roof but I'm kind of scared it will glare off of the hood. Any input on this?

I have 5 500s on the roof (3 Driving + 2 Fog). Only fogs light's up the hood intensive, but my truck is black, so no problem here. Driving are barely light the hood up.
Having both 500 and 4000, the latest are 10x better, but also 4x expensive.

Sorry didn't take any pictures of the ballast hook up but it's pretty much idiot proof hookup. There's no way you can reverse the polarity. If you want I can take some pics of where i placed the ballast.

You can have the come on with your hi-beams if you wish but i did not do that and wouldn't recommend it as i want to still be able to flash my highs for whatever reason and flashing HID's is a no-no so I just wired them on a all time hot 12v switch.

Thanks for the kind words Ron. Yeah i thought the Brisk would be a source of some comical relief but I guess not lol and what is a write-up with out a tone of pics? Hope this helps out and if you do decide to do it you won't be disappointed with there results.
