Grey Wire mod, Mystery wire?

Tonight I finished the grey wire mod, on my tacoma with complete success. However when I was grounding the gray wire, one of the wires that was grounded there, fell off(pictured below). When I regrounded it (to the grounding nut just above the clutch on the side of the body, my horn would honk every 2-3 seconds regardless of ignition position, or engine on off. I took the tacoma out for a spin to test the grey wire mod, and all systems appear to work. I was just wondwering what it is for, and if the inline splice is factory,or if it is for some sort of alarm. Both the original and the spliced wire run across the bottom of the dash towards the center console.

1 - the connector
2 - the inline splice

I am wondering what this wire is for?
Is the spliced wire factory?
If so what is it for?
Can I just leave it disconnected, like I have it now?

Thanks,

Rob
