EFI to carb swap

Hurtin deals on my recently purchased 87 4x4 pickup. Bought it running with a nice stock 22re motor and low miles (which is rare on my island) ready for a complete teardown project. Girlfriend accidently crossed battery terminals the other day for a split second(just so lovely) ,and after now 2 days of trobleshooting and goin ape on everything with the old multi-meter I must try come to terms that my ECU is fried. Considering that the ECU shat out on my 87 2wd show truck last year(after 287,xxx miles of service) I've kind of lost faith in Toyotas fickle EFI system of the 22re's. Sorry for the ranting but my question is that if you can run a 22r carburated setup with an re stock electrical fuel pump?

kind of weird that the ecm would just crap out just from shortening the battery terminals. did you check the fuses?

287,xxx miles and you lose faith in their "Fickle EFI system"?

I don't know about you, but 287k is quite a long time.

However, if you are sure you want to swap, talk to Algranger..He wants to swap his carb for EFI, so this might be the perfect opportunity for you both.

Thanks for the input fellas. But yes I checked the fuses and resistance on all efi related electronics and everything is legit, all that's left is the computer because injectors aren't getting intermittent grounding for fuel pulsation from the ECU so I know it took a crap, fuel pump isn't getting signal either so I had to run it hot just to get fuel up to the rail and no dice. Motor turns and sparks like a champ but no fuel is gettin pass the rail to the chambers. As far as buying an ECU locally that's hard to come by cause Yota parts just like the vehicles in Hawaii are gold and hard to come by, cheapest quote I got was $500. Seeing that I got a whole carb system for it on the side minus a maybe a mechanical fuel pump my projects just going to have to go another way of fuel delivery.

you can snarf one up on online for like 50 bucks. Even to hawaii.

i wouldnt do the back conversion just to avoid getting a new ECU. As far as the electric fuel pump, you'd have to dumb down the pressure to make it work and i have no idea how exactly electric fuel pumps work with carbs of our kind. The mechanical pump, pumps harder, proportonally to the motors RPM since it runs off the cam.

$500 is a scam.

Call 800-782-0682 on monday and talk to Josh (me) and I will get you an ECU for a heck of a lot less that $500
