dash lights went out

Hey guys I have a 92 4runner 2wd auto and when we got the truck it had a blown HG and such its been sitting for about a year and a half. We worked on it getting her up and running so we finally got it running. The stereo was mickey moused in there by the guy before us, so my dad who's been working on cars for 30 years and I tore into it to try and straighten it out, well come to find out the guy chopped the wiring harness off. Well we straightened it out and then the cigarette lighter went out so I went back under there to fix that and I got that working, but now the dash lights aren't on but all the dummy lights are on so I was wondering if I could get some help maybe figuring out where to look besides the obvious of dimmer and fuses which are both testing properly.

fixed it the dimmer switch fried because the guy had the illumination wires grounded.
