Cigarette lighter,can't get to work.

Last year my lighter stopped working. Which I only use to charge my cell phone and laptop on road trips. So then, when it stopped working. I disassembled the console, took the lighter completely apart, cleaned it real good and all the contacts. Put it all back together and it worked great. up until about a month ago,it stopped working again. No it isn't the thing you push in. Like I said,I use it to charge my cell phone and laptop. All the contacts are making contact. the fuse is good and the proper one.
is their an inline fuse to this thing somewhere that Yota masters buried somewhere outta sight?

Ah yes, it happened to my '90 Extracab I had.
There is a fusible link in there by the lighter that melts apart, thus leaving you without power to the lighter.

I hate those things.
I took it apart and put in some wire instead.
It was so long ago, I do not remember the gauge of wire I used.

More than likely this is the culprit.

Thanx. I suspected more than what I could see. Tomorrow,I'm gonna tear things apart again and look for an inline.
Thanx again.

You are welcome.
I think I burned mine out with a 12v vac I was using.

You might want to pursue doing a dedicated 12v plug mod that is hot all the time like I did to my FJ.

Hi guys,

Had a similar problem with my Toyota lighter, used this site to solve it -
http://www.fixya.com/support/t719090-car_fuse_problem

I use this site often, it's very helpful even to a non tech girl like me.

I think you will be able to find your answer there.

Good luck,
Trin.
