Back Up Lights on 1997 4Runner

Both of my back up lights are out in my 1997 4Runner. I checked the bulbs, and they are good. I checked the fuse locations, but I did not see any indications that any of the fuses are for the back up lights. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If automatic remove the shift cover and check that the connector is securely plugged in and test switch per instructions in manual.

If Stick, crawl underneath vehicle and check that all electrical connections going into the transmission are secure.

Hope this helps.

On my 01 the back up lights are powered by the GUAGE fuse, it doesn't have a seperate one just for the lights. I would think all 3rd gens are the same. Check that fuse, and if the bulbs are OK it's probably the switch.

I have replaced the switch on mine. It's located on the pass. side of the Trans (5-speed).

start checking connectors and wires. Make sure you are getting current to your rear lights. Do you have a trailor hookup?
