Im working on my cousins truck today, a 92 4x4 with the 3.0 V6. He pulled the engine 6 months ago to put on new headers and it has not started since, it turns ok and gets fuel but there is no spark in the engine. I think I have it down to the ecu being shot. here is what I have done, let me know if there are other options.

1. Tried to get any codes, noticed the check engine light was not coming in at all.
2. realized there were only three idiot lights coming on when turning the key to on. the battery, seatbelt and ebrake. I pulled the dash to verify all the bulbs were good. There were several more that as far as i can tell were on differnt ecu plugs.

Things my uncle and cousin have tried:
1. tested the continuity of the wires between all the starting components and the ecu
2. tested the alternator on another truck, it fired up fine
3. they pretty much went through and tested electrical continuity the old school way. One thing they did find the voltage to the ignition system seemed a little low.

My thoughts are that if the wires between everything is good and multiple idiot lights are not coming on when they should that the ECU is likely bad.

I would check all the ground connections between the engine and body/frame. Maybe one or more was missed when the engine was reinstalled.

Then, see if you can borrow an ECU from someone with a similar vehicle and give it a try.
