91 4x4 22re ecu and harness

I posted this in the other topic and didn't get any response. So I will try here...

Something chewed my harness up and possibly ruined my ecu. I am trying to find a compatible ecu and harness with no luck I did find a chart on this forum that showed 91 and 92 4runners both 2wd and 4wd would work as well as 4wd only pickups.
The ecu is a 89661-35630. I am desperate, I use this truck everyday to feed cows.

I patched it back together but it will only start and run a few seconds and die.

I called toyota but they want the model number off the harness, unfortunately the tag must have ended up in a squirrels intestines...
any help would be greatly appreciated. I have googled for hours with no luck,

Check the classified adds here and other Toyota Web sites for a Engine Harness with the ECU .

Carpart inc is another place to check.

Local yards to you.

Most times Toyota parts people ask for your VIN to look up the correct part.

I would venture the wiring harness is obsolete .

Just where do you live ??

Close to Allentown Pa at all??

Which harness you talking about? The main harness, injector harness, headlight harness or the fuel tank/tail light harness. The part number for the main harness is located above the steering column.

I would stick with the year harness that you have. Even the same year harness have differences depending on what options you have. If you have an automatic truck, I would stay with an automatic harness and same with a manual truck. Best get one from the yard, Toyota will want a fortune for one. There is a list of salvages on here that might have one. There is a salvage in Colorado that sells things but cant recall the name of it.

I am in southeast missouri, pretty rural. the salvage yards aren't very friendly to guys who want to buy one part.

It is a 5 speed manual, I gave Toyota the vin and they still wanted the part number off the harness which doesn't exist. They said $1100.00 at least......

It chewed wires off going to the three ecu plugs and the large black and white plugs that are beside the ecu.

I used scotch loc connectors to splice back together, but am not sure if I got a couple wrong or not.

I have two shielded cables one brown and one gray, and the center wire is black on both. Also have a heavier brown wire that has shielding attached to the wire and I don't know where that shielding goes.

What would the difference be in a 2wd and a 4wd harness?

I can find 2wd harnesses, I really could care less if all the epa stuff works, Don't have those tests in Missouri and my cows don't mind as long as i show up with feed.

All I really care is that it runs and will go a mile and a half and back without croaking.

It sounds like the second coil on the Circuitopening relay is not pulling in.

Does the engine still have the check connector ?? jumper B+ to Fp see if it keeps running .

Been there done the Cow Feeding but with a team and sleigh in the Mountain West.

I think a 2 wheel or 4 wheel would work for you. Where at you in Missouri. Nixa, just outside of Springfield has a yard with lots of Toyotas. B&B Salvage.

Just seen you in Southeast Missouri, it would be quite a ways for you.

I will try the jumper. I contacted yotayard in Denver and they think they have a harness. They want me to send them a picture of the plugs to see.

Maybe I don't have it so bad after all a team and sleigh sounds rough...

I jumped the terminals, and does the same thing runs 2 or 3 seconds and dies. If I push the accelerator all the way down it starts accelerating and still dies. Doesn't seem to be missing . Very briefly runs smooth.

After many hours I have it alive again!!!!
I originally used scotch loc connectors. Cut all of them out and redid with barrel connectors, just in case one of them wasn't working right.
It has two shielded cables one grey and one brown and I didn't have the shielding connected to anything. I found a brown wire with a piece of shielding just sticking out of a factory splice, traced the brown wire back where it was grounded to the intake. I hooked all three of them together.
The bad part is my ecu is now laying on top of the right fender well... not enough wire left.
I am either going to have to get a new harness or secure it where it is.
Good news is .it runs, windshield wipers work and the headlights.
The critter had got behind the battery and chewed all the headlight wires, and chewed thru wiper wires and hose.
My wife wants me to kill all the squirrels, I told I don't know for sure they did it.
Could have been a rat I guess, I hunt but like seeing the squirrels in the yard besides they clean up the hundreds of hickory nuts so I don't have to rake them.

If I could catch the responsible varmint I would blast it into oblivion

Build something to protect the ECU from water !!

Secure it in place till you find a harness

Get some use out of the truck !!

Squirrels are just bushy tailed rats skinned they don`t look much different

Pan fried with a mix of cornmeal and flour Yummy !!!

Squirrels got two of my dads cars. One was a new Nissan. Before they were just so cute to have in the yard, he has since changed his mind. Now they have been disappearing lately. Something about a .22 that is having that affect. The Nissan had to be sent to the dealer and a few more chunks taken out and it could of gotten expensive.

The harness for the headlight and injectors is easily replaced.

It starts up fine now, but seems to surge as I drive down the highway, also my 4wd light stays on all the time.
After driving it for 23 years I know when it is in 4wd or not, but wish the light worked anyway.

Any thoughts? Have I got something in the wrong spot?
Mom used to be thrilled at seeing deer in the yard, after they devoured her flowers and garden she tells Dad to kill em all...

I got the harness from Denver, but since the truck is running I am going to wait until better weather to replace it. That way if it takes me a couple of days I can just drive the tractor back to feed the cows.

I knew I had a couple of wires wrong, and now the truck will only run when it is in 4wd...
I used a meter and checked continuity on the replacement harness and tried to get the wires on the old harness connected the same. It was running in 2wd , but the 4wd light is on all the time. I "fixed" the wrong wires and now I have a new problem and the light still stays on all the time...
