4runner won't "communicate" with the SMOG Check Machine!?

I've got a 99 4runner, v6, sr5.. i've had her for years, and never any problems.. until i went to go get a smog check last week... i went to 3 different smog places, and my truck will not Communicate with the smog machine.. when i plug in a programmer / code reader to the port underneath my dash.. it works fine.. but it just won't connect with the smog machine.. any ideas? I'm driving without registration! x-P

The same thing happened to me on my 96, see thread above. I did resolve the problem and have had no issues since.
