CAUTION: This mod was done on a 2004 rig.
Compare this mod with reference to your vehicle year schematics for proper verification of DRL location, wire color & circuits involved before performing the mod.

I’d like to thank my friend, Jeff Nagun for permitting me to do this mod on his 2004 4xSport Surf (aka 4Runner).
He too wanted to have the ability to switch his DRL on/off like my ’02 rig.

Having reviewed the schematics pertaining to DRL for the 2004 4Runner, the circuits involved are “Headlight” & “Flasher” circuits.
The DRL relay module Connector D2 Pin12 operates from Pin7 of the Body ECU.

The DRL circuit operates “similar” in operation to Gen3 4Runners.
With the Light Green/Red stripe wire, acting like the remote lead on a stereo amplifier (switched power) to power on the unit.
Even with the vehicle off…headlights, fog lights, parking lights operate independent of DRL.

’04 4Runner D2 Pin12 = light Green/Red Stripe wire (“switched power” via Body ECU Pin7) powers “on” the DRL circuit.
Parking brake off “activates” the circuit.
Constant power via Pins 9 (White/Black Stripe “ground”) & 6 (Black/Yellow Stripe “TRN-HAZ” fuse).

Procedure:
Access Body ECU via photos below. At D2, take out slack & cut the Pin12 Light Green/Red Stripe wire to disable the DRL “circuit” operation.
A switch can be installed inline between the two separated light Green/Red Stripe wires for DRL operation if desired.
