When do you know its time to change your shocks? I have a 99 4R w/107k mikes on it.

It's time is now if they are original to the truck my friend! Otherwise stand on the bumpers & jump off...it should come up, then settle to the normal position immediately without continued bouncing. Also, if you can feel every imperfection in the road you know they are toast.

If you drive on the road primarily and want a better than stock ride go with the Monroe Sensatrac's (front part# 71284 at $70 each, rear part# 37157 at $33 each). These have a lifetime warranty and are suitible for light to moderate off-road use.

No to steal this thread, but I am also thinking about replacing rear shocks (1996 4Runner 4x4) and I was wandering if any one have any comments on GABRIEL HI JACKERS Shock?
Will they feel harsh in comparison with stock shocks?

I replaced my shocks/coils (the taller OEM '99 coil) at about 110k and it was definetly needed as the original stuff was more bouncy than I had realized once replaced with new OEM parts and I got it all at about $350 and I replaced a few bushings while I was at it.

i have 135k miles on my stock shocks the still work but i need to replace them sometime

Thanks guys. Well, i think I will replace the shocks. Other than 4 new shocks is there any other thing i need to replace when doing the shocks, i.e. bushings, etc. Correct me if I may be wrong, it seem to be straight forward that you remove the bolts that hold the shocks and place the new one's in. Also, would you have to do an alignment after.

just finished mine on the 87 4runner. 8 bolts total. cordless impact, rachet extension, lube, and a 1/4" wrench. The new ones should come with the bushings. I've used Doeschtech (spelling anyone) they are cheap but better then OEM. 4 for 250. And they give a nice street ride and can take punishment.
