I had Borla exhaust on my 95 4runner and within the first 3 months one of the pipe cracked....luckily borla has a lifetime warrentee so i got it replaced. You should look into that even though you may not want Borla exhaust again....

I did. They claim that not many CA emmisons systems were produced, and they don't have the "fixture" to make me a new one. I could get my money back but I don't have the original slip - I bought direct from them in 00, but they upgraded computers and now only have my name and not the work order. The last communication with them was for me to send it back and they will make me a new one from my system. That will take 2 months - I don't want another one.
Bought it new in 00. In 2002 one of the hangers cracked and they gave me a new muffler no questions asked. Never even sent the old one back. Then 4 years later, I have this issue, and times have changed.
My stock exhaust from CAT forward is in better shape. I won't get another one from them.

I just welded on a borla stainless turbo muffler to the stock exhaust. That was 2002.It still looks like it did when I put it on.Cost was right at 100 bucks.I wounder if road salt had anything to do with it.You live up north?

New England. And Cape Cod to boot! I am on the beach every weekend. However, this what that muffler is designed to withstand. Should have lasted longer in my opinion.

Had a similar problem with my stainless (non-borla) muffler. The bottom of the outlet pipe rusted through and the tailpipe fell out. My wrench bender said he'd never seen one of these fail in that way. I'm wondering if the muffler companies are cheaping out and using a lower grade of stainless or are just not using stainless at all for certain parts...
I would'nt spend the money on a borla anyway... IMO the only woth while part of them is the cool looking tip...

i've never had a dynomax system last more than 2.5 years in eastern Canada. they're only aluminized though, i would expect stainless to last alot longer than that, even with all the salt (especially considering the borla costs over twice as much!).
