Warped rotors

When I brake I it feels like the brake rotors are warped. I changed the front brakes completely and had all the tires balanced and rotated but still the feeling of warped brakes remain. Any suggestions of what it could be?

Thanks for your help.
Mike

mike the runner your driving is notorious for having warped rotors. you could have them machined and that would help for a little while but it will come back. try to find slotted rotors or drilled to help the problem. also adj your rear brakes so your drums are helping brake. most of the time toyota's will pulsate due to the rear brakes not being used very much.

yeah slotted will help get rid of the gas that is made when you brake. plus rotors like power slots are made with a coating that helps them last longer

Sorry fellas, I was out hunting and couldn't back to my computer to reply.

So here is the thing.....I noticed the "warped" feeling immediately after I changed the rotors. I felt it the first time I drove them.

Well, I have to respectfully disagree with some of your comments.

First, I've never heard of any Runner owner's saying they are "notorious" for having this problem. Secondly, putting slotted or drilled rotors on an off-road vehicle is just plain stupid, and can be dangerous. Rocks, mud, sand, snow, ice, water, that can get into the holes and slots can cause major loss of braking power.

Warping is caused by excess heat. You can install organic pads which will a lot to reduce the tendency to warp.

Rear brakes "pulsating" due to "not being used very much"???? That's a new one on me!!.... utter non-sense.

Now... adjusting the "rear brakes so your drums are helping brake".... makes perfect sense, except you have to do that with either the proportioning valve adjustment, or a separate porportioning valve like a Wilwood. I adjusted my truck proportioning valve so the rear drums are getting a tad more pressure and it does improve the overall braking, plus it's better for off-roading, especially when you are attempting a climb and the vehicle weight transfers to the rear end.

If your front rotors are warped, having them resurfaced may help for awhile or it may completely cure the problem. On my Toyotas I just replace them with a good quality new rotor if they are warped and causing the brake pedal to pulsate and usually steering wheel wobble during braking.

That's just my worthless opinion.

Anyone think the problem could be the steering rack bushing? Does your steering wheel also vibrate at hwy speed?

My steering wheel does vibrate between 70-75 miles per hour. I also adjusted the rear brakes so that they would take a little more of the braking load.

Again, thank you for all your suggestions.

warping can be caused from using power tool to tighten your wheel.

use hand.
