Question transfer case output flange and bearing

I am in the process of getting rid of vibrations and the first step is to fix what is causing the output flange to be a bit lose. It had only a little play in it, though. I took off the flange and removed the housing behind it. That is when I discovered the clip behind the bearing was broken and half missing. I imagine that could be the sole cause of the lose flange, but the shaft has quite a bit of play in it now that the rear bearing is removed. Now logicaly thinking, the front and rear bearing are the ones that need to hold in tight, so I'm leaning towards that being the end of the problem with the lose output flange, but the play in the shaft concerns me.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this? Should it have that much play?

I am going to get my replacement parts in the morning to fix the missing bearing clip, so I will at least check it out when I reassemble it, but if you guys think I need to dig deeper, now would be the time for me to do it.

Thanks guys!

What? The drive shaft is disconnected right now. This is only dealing with the output flange on the trasfer case and on into the case itself. It is the shaft in the case that has a lot of play right now with the rear bearing removed.

You might want to call up Marlin Crawler's shop and see what they have to say.
