Timing Problems

I posted this at marlin, and no help, so Im tryin anything at this point. I was goin down the road, heard a pop, truck died, no spark. So I swapped in a coil, nothing. Couldnt remove the distributor, so took off valve cover, and saw that the gear that drives the distributor had grenaded itself. So we got a new gear and distributor. Now we cant get it to run right. Trying for a day and a half now. People say put it on 0, have the mark on cam gear a lil to passenger side, insert distributor pointing at 12 o clock, it will fall into number 1 spot. We did all this and it still runs like crap. Im lost at this point. Dont know what else could be wrong. Im including pics of where its at now, and pics of the distributor and gear. Sorry about blurry pics, the camera doesnt like to be close. Help me man. I should also note its an 83 celica 22r, we had my old 81 distributor on it, but now we have the celica one on it. It had some sort of fuel injection on the motor that we swapped off, maybe the distributor is different. I dont know http://s492.photobucket.com/albums/r...ng%20Pictures/

Are you starting from scratch with the crank at TDC and number one piston firing? To verify you can pull the plug on number one and carefully stick a screw driver in the spark plug hole and make sure the piston is TDC by having some rock the crank pulley back and forth slowly. The mark on the harmonic balancer should be at the zero mark on the timing tab. Before you poke the disty in, turn the rotor so it is about 12 degrees from the number one firing on the cap. As it slides in and meshes with the gear on the cam it should turn slightly and line up so the rotor contact is sitting at the contact on the cap. You can make a little mark with the cap on before you do this. You should have the bolt hole so it's about in the middle of the slot on the disty. You may have some spark plug wires crossed. Re-check the firing order. It doesn't sound like it's firing on all four. You may have some bad spark plug wires. What's the condition of the spark plugs?
