What do you all think of SuperTech oil & filters from WalMart? A 5 quart jug is $10.50 & an oil filter is $2.28. It even comes in synthetic which is the cheapest synthetic you can get.

Opinions?

if you really don't care about what you put in your 22re, then by all means, put whatever you want in it

oil is something I've NEVER skimped on... it's the life-blood of your motor, so keep that in mind

that doesn't mean use the most expensive fully sythetic race proven motor oil with every oil change, but personally, I've always been fond of Castrol GTX, and I used their high mileage formula on my 22re when I got it at 276k miles, and I never heard a peep out of it

filters, well the same thing goes. everybody and their brother on the forums will tell you "DON'T USE A FRAM, use a Toyota brand filter from a dealership". of course the dealership filter would obviously be GREAT for the truck, I used (and have been using) Fram Tough Gaurd filters for YEARS, and only recently after my engine rebuild after 296k miles, switched over and started using a K&N oil filter. A K&N maybe be overkill, but during break in, I wanted to catch all the particles that I could

but another thing to look at; take a close look at the back lable of the oil container. many store brand oils and filters are actually made by more well known manufactures. for instance, when I was working at Advance Auto Parts back in the day, they sold Advance Auto Parts brand filters, that were Purolator filters, with a different paint on the filters and a different print on the box and if I'm not mistaken, Havoline made the oil

x2 on what bleeder said. never skimp on oil. if your yota has slightly high miles, or any vehicle with slightly high miles, itll burn thru the walmart oil super quick. my GF used to get that crap put in her car til they told her at wal mart that the super tech oil is not the best and it burns really quick in high mileage vehicles. i to use nothin but Castrol GTX and Toyota oil filters

After doing some research (google searches) the consensus as to who makes it & it's quality is as follows: The oil is supplied to Wal-Mart by Pennzoil/Quaker-State. It uses the same high-quality group II/III base stocks as their name oil, but uses an off-the shelf additive package.

I've generally heard/ had a negative opinion on Pennzoil/Quaker-State (this would probably explain why the Quaker State oil is always the same price as SuperTech at WalMart)

Any more thoughts on this?

I wouldn't use the supertech oil but there is nothing wrong with the supertech filters. I would rather use a supertech vs. a fram anyday! Also you can get castrol at walmart for around $10 bucks as well for the 5 qt jug, at least you can here.

The rule about oil is that as long as the the 3 magic letters SAE appear before the viscosity of the oil, it's fine to use in your engine.

I use 5w30 penzoil and toyota filters .. exclusivly .. oil changes are done always on time .

only problems I have are leaks !!

its made by pissoil (pennzoil) which IMO is junk. it meets standards when new, but degrades at a faster rate then most. unless your strict on oil changes I would go a different route.. I like castrol and Exxon/Mobil..

I don't use them in my runner. I use castrol gtx high mileage and wix filters.
That said: I used to use the Wally world stuff and still do in my other cars and never had any problems... I just baby the yota a bit lol

in case your wondering my experiance with pennzoil is that I worked at jiffy lube fore a while. almost every car/truck that came through got pennzoil/quaker state..

Amsoil 10w40 made for the flat tappets.

Valvoline 10W-40 and a fram extra guard filter. Thats the only way to go.

Oil is oil as long as you change it like you're supposed to. If you're one of those guys that goes 10k on an oil change, then I'd spend a little extra on some good oil (but then again if you go 10k on an oil change you obviously don't care about your engine anyways, so what does it really matter.) If you change your oil regularly, say every 2500-3000 miles, then Super-Tech and Fram filters work just fine.

I would never use penzoil either, not sure about the modern version but the older stuff was JUNK!

I just switch to Mobile1 full synthetic 10w-30 with mobile1 oil filter in the baby runner this weekend. all valve tick has gone away and the motor just sounds happier. with 268K on an unknown and very possible original 3.0 it gets the best of the best

i've been running the same oil in the big runner since the motor swap.

its a little more $$ than the cheapo stuff but like already said, its the life blood of the motor so i figured it worth it.

I use Castrol High Mileage in anything of mine that uses oil Or Mobil 1 in my equipment that uses oil. If its new rebuild or new period, or doesnt use oil it gets Schaeffer Full Synthetic.
