Question Steering Rod Recall - how did toyota find out about me?

Anyone else get the steering rod recall letter from Toyota? I'm not the original owner and I've never been to a dealership and somehow I got this letter and they have my VIN. I wonder how.

I've been too afraid to let those people touch my truck. Is it true that the replacement rods bend much easier than the originals?

Recall

I had mine done this past summer. I thought I had to replace my PWR steering pump because I consistantly had problems steering. I was fighting the wheel to turn into tight places.

Dealership had my truck for 3 hours. Got it back and the steering is fine. They told me I had a hairline crack that ran about 2 inches. Not HUGE, but definately a problem.

Ger 'er done.

even if it is the last time you see those crooks at the dealership.

No the only thing the recall replaces is the Steering Relay rod... BUT more than likely if your rig is high mileage they are going to tell you they can't align it unless you replace the stuff. Obviously you haven't read the links that have been posted they address all this stuff in detail. I would take the time to throughly educate yourself on this one.

i've gotten 3 of them. after i got the second one, i called up the dealership, and they said they were out of parts and backordered, and should have the part within a few days, and would call me asap. they never called back.

i threw the last one in the trash.

Take it to another dealer. This is a recall and the dealer has to do it. They replaced the rod on mine and nothing else.
