spare tire is smaller

OK I am looking at new tires that are 265/70/17 but the spare is only 265/65/17. Is that small difference going to matter if I need to use the spare? will it kill my diff - it would only be until I could get the flat fixed - so will I be OK - for how long?

works out to a 32" tire instead of a 31" - so maybe guys with 32" tires may know??

Nope, should matter, its very slightly smaller. I ran a spare for my camry that was the same way, aspect ratio was off by 5 and it didnt do a thing evenont he front.

Longterm it may cause excessive tire wear but thats it.

I have wondered this too, if I go to 33's on my truck, my stock spare is almost 30, maybe 31 inches...thats a bit of difference in my mind, whats the skinny on running that spare? I figured cars can do it with donuts, right? I mean I've run a car with 17's on it, and a little 14" donut spare... how much differnce can you ge tin size before its an issue?

Just don't use 4WD and you'll be fine.

I think it really only matters if you have lockers.

putting on a smaller spare and driving short distances will not do anything. It only hurts if you use that spare to do your daily driving. then it wears down your gears and will cause uneven wear on your tires.
