When i had my 2nd gen, i installed 4crawler seat lifts and they made a world of a difference. One of these days i plan on doing a write-up/review on them.

- LED dome light
- LED door markers
- aux 12v sockets wired to the deep-cycle
- new homemade center console (total cost appx $20 for vinyl covering and bolts)
- various hooks bolted to the body to hang flashlights, etc. off of
- the maglight mod, for a larger LED flashlight
- a couple hooks and a handle bolted to the back seat's base, for bungees
- removed back seat and backrest for better storage
- fog lights
- reverse also now turns on additional rear-mounted reverse lights (fogs)
- removed the valance
- extended diff breathers
- replaced the single tow hook with a pair of shackles
- skid plate made from scrap sheet metal (going on two seasons now with no issues)
- passed garage-door wire through holes drilled in bolts to form loops for tie-downs (those bolts go in place of the passenger seat bolts when i'm travelling alone w/o a passenger seat) -- makes for way easier and more convenient storage of my camera gear.
- defeated the door buzzer with a temporary switch

I bought a 4 D cell mag lite ($20) and mounted it to my seat not just for light, but for protection should I ever need it. Also painted my skid plate w/ chrome paint. Removed running boards and sold them on eBay. "Dual" exhaust (added another pipe about 20" long to the other side). No one can tell unless they look underneath.

Dang I wished I had a digicam... I've got 2 aux fuse boxes($10) one under the hood and the other near the pedals underneath the auto shifter/console, hitch mounted backup lamps ($20), PCV mod ($25)

I rewired my windows in my doors; to work without the ignition, to add a quick disconnect for when I pull the doors off, and to replace the crappy window switches that come with the truck.
All it took was some momentary toggle switches at radio shack, some wire, and some connectors. I think it cost like $20 all together.

Sure is a PITA to reach over the truck and try to roll the passenger window up..

Best cheap mod goes to my seats. Not cheap compared to a mag light mount or something, but $50 bucks for some really comfy buckets is cheap to me.

One of my best mods was to saw the rear speaker boxes, so that now they accept a 5.25" speaker. The mod was easy, and looks clean, I only had to remove a minimal amount of material.

I bought 2 small universal domelights and wired them into the door switches, then mounted them under the dash on driver and passenger sides to have floor lites when you open the doors. Very handy at night when you dropped something

a few cheap mods :)
Cup holders in the glove box! one of my fav's and my dad had the cup holder from the old cj5. cost-zero
ammo can glove box! my dad had the ammo can, i just covered the top with some old material and bolted it to the floor. i also cut the old center console and retained the stock cup thing and switches. cost-zero
i put a 55watt light on my roll bar on the inside and use it as an interior light. i love this thing. i use it like every nite. i wired the light into the decklight, i got that off 4crawlers i think it was (great stuff). cost-zero
and i mounted a two-liter of water on each side of my rollbar with some fire extinguishers i found. now i always have at least 4 liters of water. cost-zero

Back-up lights
As most are aware the rear back-up lights on the 2nd Generation 4Runners don't provide that much light, especially if your vehicle is lifted. So I thought I would add a little extra by inserting some white LED lights into the rear bumper. I didn't want to mount lights below the bumper because experience has shown me they usually get broken or twisted. Now granted, these don't provide the amount of light an off-road or KC light would, but the give off a cleaner and brighter light than the ones that are higher in the tailgate. They are also aimed down just a little because of the angle of the bumper. This one of my cheaper mods (under a $100). More pics here.

My cheapo modo: found a piece of 2 gauge wire by the dumpster about 2 feet long, crimpped up between the battery "-" and engine block. that smoothed out the idle right there.
