SeaFoam'd it. Not much difference. i do it wrong?

i've always felt the truck was a little sluggish, but i'm running 33's with a 22re and 4.11s, so i know it's slow. but the acceleration is also not consistent.

at about 3400 rpm, the acceleration increases like i have a secret mini-turbo somewhere. i figured a SeaFoam treatment might help with the lower end.

i figured that going as far to the front of the intake as possible would clean more of it. so i pulled the hose from the a/c idle up, plugged that, and then stuck the hose into the can.

you can see the hose i used in this pic. it elbows to the intake from the driver's side of it, and attaches IMMEDIATELY BEHIND the clamp for the big black intake elbow, on the top.

it sucked in half a can as i held about 2k rpm, then i shut it down for about 5 mins. i rehooked all, and started it up. had to WOT to get it to turn over.

it smoked, but not a thick white cloud. it cleared in about 5 mins.

i don't notice any performance improvement. would doing it again through the brake booster be worth it, or is it just not that dirty in there?

When i did sea foam through the intake on my 92 my neighbors called the fire department, dead serious, had to explain to them that i knew what i was doing and the 100ft cloud was supposed to look like that. They took my empty can for the report, so they could highlight the instructions. Maybe yours is really clean, mine was not. I ran it through a strong vaccuum source, i believe off the cruise junction/solenoid.

theres a sea foam thread on here somewhere, but ur supposed to kill it with the seam foam and pour like an 1/8 of it in there after it dies, now this is extremely hard with an EFI motor but they sell sea foam deep creep i think its the same stuff just n a spray can so u can spray it threw the throttle body

Keep in mind, seafoam is not a miracle in a bottle. Sounds like you have other problems, seafoam will not fix it.

Could be clogged fuel injectors. When did you change your fuel filter last? If its been a long time, change it, cut it in half, and look for crud. If its clogged, then so are your fuel injectors.

Try running some ATF in your gas tank. Let the tank get to close to empty, and dump a quart of ATF in. Run it for a while, and see if it helps.

adam f do you mean let the tank get close to empty put a quart of atf in and run it like that, or fill up the tank again after you put in the atf?

I sea foamed mine last week, used the brake booster hose, runs really crappy when you pull that hose off, but once I started pooring in the sea foam it will smooth out. put in about a 1/2 can then shut it off for 5 min. Found an exhaust leak aroung the exhaust man to down pipe connection. When I started it up it filled the block up with smoke. Ran it for about an hour and it still smoked. finally stopped smoking just the other day. But the power increase was unbelievable. Put the rest of the can in the oil. I will change it out tomorrow. I was hoping it would help out my valve seals, but has not changed the oil consumption any.

Slightly off topic but still on the subject of SEAFOAM.

Can I use it and a old toothbrush and scotchbrite pads to clean myvalves and piston tops while I have my engine mostly disassembled.

I was told to use brake cleaner, which I haven't gotten yet, but I do have seafoam.

Back on topic...would there be any downside to doing the treatment a 2nd time for the question in the original post? Or is there a better place to use to suck in the seafoam? I have not done that ever.

I used it and was not impressed. Later I took off my intake and physically scraped off a bunch of buildup. It took years to build up so a bottle of chemicals isn't going to put much of a dent in it. At best, I think it may have softened up the caked on stuff.

I use the brake booster hose. One treatment should be 1/3 can in gas tank, 1/3 can in vacuum hose (then shut it off for 25 - 30 minutes to let it soak in) and 1/3 can in oil. I use it in the oil 2-500 miles before oil change. Don't know how much good it does this 230,000 mile V6 in my 88. But I feel it doesn't hurt any, so I will continue.

^ i do the same

1. 1/3 in the brake booster hose. turn off engine
2. pour 1/3 in the oil
3. pour the rest in the gas tank
wait for 10min and start it up. rev some till smoke somewhat clears...then drive around the block.
4.change oil

for mines i had better response. for older cars you might get exhaust leaks...

Yes, run it with a high amount of ATF in the gasoline. ATF has a high level of detergents and it will help clean out any junk in the fuel lines or injectors.

Did you run it with any snake oil or elbow grease?

sea foam

You can pour LOTS of different stuff in a engine to make it smoke. Just cause its smokin doesn't mean anything. As a routine it might work but like the one guy said it ain't a GENI in a bottle. Monitoring your A/F ratio long term is the best. I have taken enough EFI apart selling them to LCE and I'm not impressed...most are crapped out with carbon. I did run a qt. of LUCAS injector cleaner on my last long trip .I have a carb but clean is clean. It also said improves mileage. I got 17 MPG with my trk. weighing 5300 lbs pulling a 450 lb trailer and 200 lbs or stuff in the trailer going from 1000 feet in elevation. to 4000 feet for a duration of 339 miles. I'd say Lucas is good and make financial sense to use it.

It goes through the pcv valve hose. this feeds all cylinders thoroughly. It will work this way!
