Quick 2nd gen help... grommets in firewall ?

I just started adding an alarm to my 2nd gen as I am too lazy to open my doors with a key

Seriously, I am only going to be using the remote locking features for now and also a remote starter as I will be parking it at the ski resort most weekends and a warm truck is much easier to clean ice and snow from than a cold one when you want to drive home.

I am in pretty good shape but want to run a couple of wires through the firewall for my hood pin switch and tach wire (have to use under hood diagnostic port for a negative tach feed ). My 3rd gen had a really nice grommet on the DS firewall but it looks like I may be out of luck on my 2nd gen.

There is a big grommet high on the PS firewall that takes the main loom from the battery/under hood fusebox. I am eyeing that right now.

Anyone done this recently ? Where is the easy spot to pass through the firewall.

Thanks

David

I used the grommet on the driver's side, right where the hood latch release goes through. I ran my CB wires/cable and a few other things that were really lame (don't ask ) through that grommet. If you have to go on the passenger side, than I would probably use the grommet you mentioned.

Just my $.02

I drilled my own hole and I'm still looking for a suitable grommet to fit the area. It adds to the noise level a little, but I figured it would be easy enough to fix. I just haven't found the right part yet (or don't know where to look).

yes, there is a grommet of the DS. it can be tough to see , but it will go right into the area above your pedal linkages making it perfect location to run switches through.. its only abount an inch in diameter

Just make sure you don't leave part of the grommet hanging out or something like that. It needs to be seated properly in the hole. Mine was buggered up and I had water coming in. If you do drill a hole, try to waterproof it somehow.

I just added some lights nrgetic, and understand what you're talking about. The PS grommet is bigger, and very nicely placed for access to the battery, unfortunately, you will basically have to remove the entire dash to get the wire down where you can do something with it! The DS grommet is smaller, but you can reach right up there and pull the wires through.

I used the PS grommet and just ran a fish tape down through the grommet and pulled the wires back up behind the heater to the grommet with the tape.

Worked great.
