polishing aluminum rims?

i just picked up a set of M/T classic2 rims, used. not long ago the seller said he wet sanded them to get all the oxidation off, now they have a dull satin finish. i would like to restore the poished shine they should have. I spent about an hour yesterday with a powerball and some mothers aluminum poilsh, and no change. any tips on getting back the shine, beside hours of rubbing?

It was probably the clearcoat finish that he sanded off

I thought the way to remve ovidation on wheels were to polish them because ive seen that meguiars wheel polish removes oxidation but you just work the product in.
