A few people have asked me what I carry as a medical/first aid kit. I am a paramedic and have been doing EMS for about 3 years now in some very busy systems, private and government. Currently I work full time for Alliance City FD, part time for Jackson Twp. FD and every now and again Nimishillen Twp FD. I used to work for the “bad guys” AKA: American Medical Response but quit a few months back.

So, here is the EMS/First Aid gear I carry in my 4Runner 24/7 and lug along on whitewater rafting and canoe trips, extended camping stays and things like that. There is also a few multi-trauma dressings, a burn sheet, blankets and water stashed in the truck itself.

If there was enough interest I may consider putting some kits together for sale but they would not include everything pictured as lots of it is useless, or even dangerous in novice hands. They wouldn’t be cheap either and if you want them in actual Pelican cases you can pretty much double the price as they are not cheap either. Enough on that for now…



Here are the two Pelican Cases everything is in.

That’s pretty much it. The most important tool is the gray matter in my head but it’s sort of hard to photograph. If you are not sure what something is or is for just ask but I’m too lazy to list everything exactly.

Why is AMR "the bad guys"? Just curious since I have 3 friends working for them until they can become medics and firefighters. The only thing I hear is how it sucks being a full time EMT for minimum wage.

Very nice, i like how you've got a whole trama kit in smaller Pelican cases. I only carry a level 3 fist aid kit, so it has everything minus the items that only paramedics are aloud to carry/use such as needles and syringes drugs etc. etc. i was only in the industrial medical field as an EMR or first responder for nearly 2 years before i left for Belize. and i also had way to many to count tickets for industrial safety. And even though i was just an EMR i was tought by my Uncle who was also a Paramedic who owned the company, he is very well educated, he can teach so many courses. any way he also gave us some EMT knowledge so we could be more useful in assisting them. That kit must have cost you an arm and a leg! i got mine for free because i got it all from my Uncle before he sold the company.

Very nice set up. I really like it, much better than the other truama kits I've seen advertised.

Have you seen the Isreali dressings, trauma pad attached to end of modified ace bandaged. Its awesome. I also carry the CAT tourneque in close reach too. and a bunch of cravaets. I like the SAMS also.

Well the job of an AMR field employee differs from area to area but overall the company has the same business model as Wal-Mart. It created financial growth but at what cost?

The division I worked for was union, I made close to $13 an hour as an EMT basic part time but the CBA was pretty weak and the management used any possible chance to grill field employees or even fire them.

Basicly like most for profit groups, everything about safety, patient care and excellence in EMS was all total BS.

Nice kit Lamm.

I had to get recertified a few weeks back with a 4 hour CPR/defib class at Boeing taught by a contractor.

I forget who it was, but they handle all of our classes.

Somebody beat me to it. AMR is the WalMart of prehospital medicine. I have nearly 20 years now as a paramedic. AMR moves in and knocks all the local small companies out of business. They pay less than most and leverage their size so that the little guys can't compete. That said, everybody has to start somewhere and working for people like that can help someone realize how lucky they are when they get better opportunities.

Haha, no, not quite. Where do you see them? I do carry some unlubricated condoms in my survival kit though, they work well as an emergency water bag.

^^I have a bunch of them (Israeli dressings), and I've used a bunch of them. They work great in trauma situations. The CAT tourniquets are probably the best thing that I carry, well next to HemCon dressings for severe bleeding, but they're so incredibly convenient to use.

Nice set up. I carry a kit too, it actually my combat medic pack from.......well lets call it another life. I carry alot of that stuff and a bit more (those of you who have seen my what do you carry post you know what I mean). The only problem I have is due to my previous "life" I always have and IV set up, and lately I noticed the bag had gotten a little slushy, something that I wouldn't want going into a patient. I also have other stuff that I am sure is not supposed to be stored at below freezing.


What do you do different in the winter, or extreme summers?
