painting wheels

I am not sure exactly what material these wheels are but I want to paint them black. I love the look of my truck when I have the black steelies on with the MT/Rs and I want to keep that same look year-round. The seller lists them as alloy wheels. The pictures are located here: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...446#post900446

my question is, can anyone tell what I need to do to paint them? Sand them first? prime them? what kind of paint? Thanks!

I used Duplicolor Wheel Paint. Simple to use.

For prep, I used an aircraft stripper to get the clearcoat off. Then I wet sanded them with a 320 grit 3M sanding sponge. Painted 2-3 coats of the Duplicolor Wheel Paint. I did not use clear since I figured these will be getting touched up when they get beat up from wheeling.

I did silver:

VHT makes a Polyurethane wheel paint that works awesome. Here is a thread I started a long time ago. There are many other threads like this as well.

Just make sure you remove all of the clear, or else they will look like crap.

When I did my alloy's, I started with a 4" coarse wire wheel in a drill motor and got all the gunk off that I could. One nice side effect of that is it took out a lot of the road rash.

Then a coat of Rust-oleum primer; then two coats of Rust-oleum flat black.

You can see the results here: (click for a larger pic)
