maintaining high RPMs with 22R-E
Is there anything wrong with maintaining over 5000 RPM for extended periods?
During a recent trip from Allenspark to Glenwood Springs, I maintained about 5000-5500 in 3rd around the Avon/Vail area on I-70 for about 20 mins. Got it up to 106 in 5th just wondering if I should have concerns about revving this high for so long. valves seem to get floaty above 5300. I normally shift around 2400-3000. When pulling grades, I maintain 3000-4500 in 3rd, such as when driving up Highway 7 to get to Bunce.

any stock Toyota truck motor that has factory Efi will never see above 6,250 RPM. they have rev-limiter that wont allow it. as for the op, as long as its not a high mileage motor you will be fine.

thanks for the replies...
I don't know what you would consider high mileage, but I have a little over 210k miles on mine...

and yes, how did you manage to rev to 7500? The stock Toyota TCCS ECU won't allow anything over 6250.
What engine did you have? a carbed 22R perhaps?

My understanding is that a 22RE will take that all day, but a Jeep 4 cyl would self-destruct in short order. 22REs are tough, so you'll be fine I think. Just make sure you have good oil in there. Toyotas seem picky about clean oil.
