Ford Ranger 4x4 height VS Tacoma Sr5 4x4

I have noticed that a stock ford ranger evidently must be higher than a tacoma like mine, the SR5 4x4, not the TRD. It seems like a ranger with a three or two inch bodylift with the same size tires as mine, (33x12.50) towers over me and I have six inches of lift.

I love my truck and all, but it just started out way too low. I am just trying to get some other opinions on this. Sorry for the vague thread.

even with a trd...it wont make any difference height wise, since you've got BL & SL. remember...taller doesnt mean better

and plus its a ford, so you shouldnt even be worried about it.

maybe this can be moved to the general forum...

That is really the only drawback i have found on my tacoma. Why be 4 wheel drive truck and be so low stock? Was there a reason why they made it like that or because consumers would complain about step in height?

Not really THAT low. It has more clearance than a stock 4x4 Cherokee.

You want low...try owning a Grand Cherokee. I can only fit 30" tires stock and 3.5" lift to fit 32's.

I would be willing to bet that a stock 4x4 tacoma has more ground clearance than a stock 4x4 ranger.

its not the clearence, its the body height. my front bumper comes up to the front bumper of a FX4 2005 2500 hd diesel ford truck
well hood to hood is the same height basically

guess what the top of the ford has at least 4 inchs to the top of my 4runner, its our 4runner bodies or tacomas, they have a lower height from hood to roof

Thats funny. The roof of my 4Runner with 285's comes to the roof of my dads 2004 F-250 FX4 with the ame 285' on it.

no kidding, my seat has to be reclined just perfectly so my hair doesn't "just barely touch the roof enough it gets annoying" .... not as much headroom as a lot of other suvs and trucks I've ridden in ... I'm only 5'12" too

perfect example. I saw a 2000 Ford Ranger with a 3" bodylift on 32s while i was getting parts at a junkyard, put my truck to shame with 6" of lift on 33s. It is rediculous. Why is the body height so low on tacomas?

Is the body just sitting lower or is everything else lower? If i remember correctly is that a lot of Toyota's sit lower on the frame than most domestics.

I actually thought taco's were pretty high, they're higher than my truck when it was stock (89 4runner)... but mine has a low roof... thankfully, i JUST fit in a parking garage...
But sit in a toyota, it's a car position.
Sit in a ford, it's a truck position, the roof needs to be higher for head room.
What i go by, is the wheel well gap, toyota annihalates ford there

i have to say, body height is bad and frame height from ground is good. With that said, the tacoma is better all around. I have a friend with a 4x4 ranger, the tacoma has more ground clearance. Who cares if the body is low? Plus, the rangers don't even come with a front skid, pretty pathetic.

Because the Ranger tries to compensate for it's lack of off road prowess with a taller stance. It's like a weightlifter trying to beat up a ninja. Just ain't gonna happen.

I just know that I wouldn't want to have to climb into anything taller than my rig on a daily basis.

my friend has a 97 ranger 4x4, he just ordered a 3 inch body (on back order) right after i ordered mine. my truck sat a lot higher then his stock, and i don't think it will be any different with the same amount of lift, not only is my rook higher then his but my rockers and driveline are too. my friend with a 96 fulll size chevy has a three inch body lift, cranked t-bars, 2 inch blocks out back, and 33's and my truck ( 89 truck 3 inch body lift 31's) sits about 1 inch lower then his. he is the kind of person that lifted his truck to sit taller then other trucks on the road, not for offroading. he always says how his truck is taller and i saw i have better ground clearance, he knows this and says a dumb@$$ ignorant comment, and says """"well when you measure yourself do you measure up to your head or your b@ll$. i looked at him and laughed. some people lift their truck for different reasons then others, his lift is for "cosmetics" and would make his truck worse offroad. i think domestic trucks have a great distance not only from hood to roof, but from the floor to the top of the seats. thats why 4crawler sells the seat lifts, so it doesn't feel so much like a car inside.
neliconcept... i find myself when driving that the front of my hood to be just as high as full size trucks but when i compare roof lines the full size trucks have bigger distance between hood and roof

im done
