It will be a good bit louder due to the exhaust note having much more of an echoing effect if you cut it off right there.

If you had a stock or at least quiet exhaust system it won't make much difference. The pipe doesn't quiet the exhaust enough to matter - the cat and muffler do 99% of the quieting chores. It will resonate inside the truck a bit more, and really increase the likelihood that you will get exhaust fumes into the truck (bad!) and of course all that hot exhaust blowing on the underneath bits (also bad.)
Dumb thing to do. If you want a louder exhaust, change the muffler but keep the pipe all the way out the side. Please don't make it too loud - most of the rest of us don't share your love of noise for the sake of noise...

I had to cut mine off right after the muffler due to clearance issues with my chevy leaf springs, so now it dumps out right under the bed, and it gave it a pretty noticeable droning sound.

For 2 years i ran with no pipe from the outlet of the muffler to out the side, didnt think it was THAT loud. I had to reattach the last tail pipe piece to go through emssions and really didnt notice that much of a diffrance.
(this was on my truck not the runner)

The guy that bought the Flamed truck (picked it up today) left me with a 4Runner with a 327 in it, with duals and Flowmasters. It's Loud! and the funny thing is it's not a nice tone at all. It sounds kinda tinny, but it's too loud. I was underimpressed. I didn't think you could mess up the sweet sound of a 327.

Dual shackle setup was in the way of the tailpipe, so it had to go. Tailpipe was a custom setup bent up by a local shop, not stock. I dont know if the stock setup would work or not.
