Yeah sad news, i read about this on our local toyota club this morning, very sad.
Atleast i got a set of their leafs

I bought a Downey header for my 86 4Runner about 9 months ago, its a very high quality part but it was a bit pricey as was most of there products. They would probably still be around if they weren`t so high priced.

AP has their stuff in line, some higher prices on some things but they make a good product.

I think one thing that took downey under was the fact they didnt do internet orders, and I really dont think they kept up with the changing times.
They were good at everything, But great at nothing, A jack of all trades if you will..
Its sad, But thats the reality of private business.

With that said I do think we will still be able to get most of their products through other vendor(s)

Sell them and Buy some OME's. If they're anything like what I got then they'll be sagged out either completely or unevenly...Saddly, not the highest quality springs I'm affraid.

To be honest, they arent that bad.. theyve settled a bit and they are sitting good. I think ill add the loadcarrying leaf from ym old set just to help em out

That stinks! While I have been servicing Toyotas for years I am just now getting round to beefing one up. They had a bunch of products that I was very interested in ex: Air Intake Systems and performance parts, good looking skid plates and exterior products. Noticed the site went down yesterday.

I really wanted their Grand Slam long travel kit...

I love how it kept the truck looking relatively stock, just a bit beefier. The TC kit just way to robby gordon for a DD

downey is/was weak!!!

there are so many good companies out there that sell a higher quality product. the only thing that blows about downey going out of business is the fact that they were a toyota purist. they were overpriced, you could only order over the phone, and most of their products haven't been updated since the 80's. NWOR is a great replacement company for overpriced yota stuff, at least theirs is quality built. all pro, marlin, trailgear, and sky; all have pushed out the weak and antique downey. RIP DOWNEY

This can't be. I bought my first lift kit in 1986 from them. My 81 toyota rode like a tank back then. No soft springs. Troubles are that I am needing a 40 pulse sensor to plug into the back of my tcase for my Fj40 that I am finishing. They were the only ones who sold thos that I know of.

To me, this is where Downey will be missed. They sold specialty items that all pro and the others do not carry. All Pro, trail Gear and Marlin are all mirrors of them selves.

As mentioned before, I highly doubt all their products are just going to disappear.
I'm sure somebody will capitalize on the situation and continue to offer the one-of-a-kind products Downey was known for.

I bought a header from them for my 22R. It lasted 9 NY salty winters. The chrome is all gone and it is rusty but only surface rust. TRD stage 1 cam, Downey header with full 2.25 exhaust and a gear change and it felt like a 3RZ engine under the hood. They were overpriced and outdated but a decent company. NWOR is not worth dealing with and I hope they do not buy out the parts from Downey.

Well, that is a shame. I dealt with Jim Sickles, not knowing he was the owner and was very pleased with his customer service.

I really wanted more of their products, and I too liked their grand slam kit. I also wanted one of their skid plates since the budbuilt won't work with my addictedoffroad bumper.

It would be good to know if it was the economy that drove them out of business or simply Jim Sickles was ready to sell the business and retire.

torsin bars

This does suck, does anyone know where i will be able to get the 26 or 28mm torsin bars from now on? (other than old man emu, im not payin close to 200 dollars for a torsin bar!) also do yall know exactly how those lift ur truck are they clocked differently or what?

Larger diameter torsion bars lift via higher spring rates:

Since the spring rate is some number of pounds of force for an inch of wheel deflection. a higher spring rate gives less deflection for a given load (and less deflection means the front end sits higher; i.e. it is lifted). Unless you have increased the vehicle weight a whole lot over stock, the stiffer (larger diameter) bar will just give you a stiff ride, 26mm is 95% stiffer than stock and 28mm is over 160% stiffer.
